to massage banana and honey onto my scalp?

Dry scalp is driving me crazy. It's winter cold - we live in a dry climate - and centre heating at work. I've read online that ripe banana mixed with a little honey and olive oil makes a good moisturising mask for the scalp. WIBU to give it a go?

Neither banana nor honey is an oily substance so I can't see how they would help. Rather eat them on toast and get a decent moisturising masque instead. Or overnight with a good conditioner. Or coal tar shampoo is very good for the scalp.

Use body shop ginger shampoo and conditioner works wonders

Thanks. Decided against it as didn't want to clean banana out of the shower. Used a moisturising mask for the scalp and it didn't feel good last night (scalp very tight, dry and itchy) but does feel a bit better today. I use ginger shampoo from the Body Shop as my scalp is always dry. Just gets itchy and painful in winter.

You could try the nopoo method of washing your hair with only conditioner. No shampoo at all. Also choose a really good moisturising conditioner for this with no sls or silicones which can be drying and affect the natural oils in your hair.

Coconut oil warmed up as a hot oil treatment, wrap well in towel and leave on overnight, works a treat for me

Julianaa · 28/11/2018 23:25

How would I wash out the coconut oil?

Not banana. You will spend the rest of the year trying to get it out!!!

BudgieBalls · 29/11/2018 00:28

Egg will get oil out

BudgieBalls · 29/11/2018 00:29

Just make sure to only use lukewarm water so you don't cook it lol

Almond oil from the chemists, it's a base carrier oil so you can add aromatherapy oil if you wish too. Give yourself an Indian head massage, wrap hair in a carrier bag, cover with a towel and let it heat up for an hour. Shampoo straight on to hair before water to act as an emollient to get it off. Your hair will feel amazing too. Don't use coconut oil it adds to fatbergs in sewers.

Are you sure it's not a fungal issue? I would try Nizoral.

Julianaa · 29/11/2018 17:25

How would I know whether it's fungal?
