Just that really. Posting for traffic. She currently goes to bed about 8.30 I was just wondering when everyone else sends theirs?

7, but she'll read in bed until about half 7, up at 7.

angelikacpickles · 25/11/2018 23:26

How do people get their kids to bed so early? We only get in at about 10 past 6 (used to be 6.30 until recently) then have to do homework, then have dinner around 7.

FourFuxxakes · 26/11/2018 00:11

In at 5pm
Supper at 6pm
Shower/wash at 6.30pm
Reading/chilling out until bed at 7.30pm
Up at 6.30am

On the weekend it's kind of the same but bed at 8pm, reading until 9pm and up at any time after 8am.

PhilomenaButterfly · 26/11/2018 06:44

angel DS2 wakes up at 5, so he's exhausted.

PumpkinKitty82 · 26/11/2018 07:16

Dd is 7 and she goes to bed around 8:30 and up at 7:35 .
If she was a struggle to wake at that time then I’d send her up earlier but usually she’s up before my alarm so we’re happy with this time

spacefighter · 26/11/2018 07:23

8 o'clock and up at 7am.

zingally · 26/11/2018 08:42

We start the process at 7:30, and she's usually asleep by 8.

LovesLaboursLost · 26/11/2018 08:51

God, you people with kids who need lots of sleep are SO lucky. My seven year old will never sleep more than 9.5 hours. Very occasionally ten if he’s particularly tired. My toddler sleeps less than some of these seven year olds sob

How do people get their kids to bed so early?

Routine since birth, gradually getting later as they get older. There has never been an option not to go to bed; it’s all they’ve ever known, so when it’s bedtime it’s bedtime; they go to bed and they fall asleep because that’s what their body clock is used to. It’s not completely inflexible - they stay up later for holidays and special occasions, and that’s fine, but on a normal day to day basis it’s just their routine so they don’t question it.

FrenchJunebug · 26/11/2018 11:16

8 but he is allowed to listen to a book on cd in bed or play a bit.

sirfredfredgeorge · 26/11/2018 11:26

I can understand how "routine" can influence the time they go to sleep, but how does it manage against kids who don't need that amount of sleep, the times here are right at the top end of the normal range (and sometimes above) given that the majority of kids are not at the top end of sleep needs.

Why don't these kids wake up after they've had sufficient sleep? 9-11 hours is "normal", so 7pm a sleep, that's 4-6am wake ups.

Does the routine perhaps influence that amount of sleep they need, so the routine kids end up needing more?

steff13 · 26/11/2018 11:31

My daughter is 8. She goes to bed at 10, and we aim for her to be up at 8, but more often than not she gets up on her own around 7.

HotInWinter · 26/11/2018 11:41

We go to bed quite early, as we are out of the house 6.45 for school.
10 -10.5 hrs in bed.

I think the "how do you get them to bed so early" comment more refers to how people fit in getting back from work, cooking, eating and homework.
For us, home from school 3. DH home from work by 4.30 (that early start has it's benefits!), allows a 7.30 bed time easily. But if you didn't get home til near 6, it's just not going to happen.

DrCoconut · 26/11/2018 11:49

Around 10 usually. He doesn't sleep early and tonight for example will be at beavers until half 8, another day he swims 6 till half past the home for dinner. A very early bedtime would exclude him from activities.

DoingMyBest2010 · 26/11/2018 11:51

mine's just turned 8. Goes to bed around 8-8.30, doesn't sleep till 9pm. Awake 7am.

PhilomenaButterfly · 26/11/2018 12:56

HotIn I don't work, we get in before 4 usually, dinner at 4.20, pyjamas on at 5, TV for an hour, reading, spellings 4 nights a week, homework once a week, winding down time, bed at 7.

@VenusClapTrap

The problem isn't getting them to go to bed when they are told. My question was more related to the timing - there's no way we could have anyone in bed for 7 when we don't get in the door until after 6! Even if one parent is at home all day, surely that means the other parent never gets to eat with the kids or see much of them before bed? Even when mine were toddlers, they would't have been in bed until at least 8pm.
