To think in laws are storing a mini-slurry pit in the highly used garden ?!!

And is it a problem? MIL told me a few weeks ago that FIL has a bin in the garden full of sheep poo and she's told him he will above to get rid of it before it explodes as he's had it for ages. I told her she may have to ask environmental health to come and remove it as my initial thoughts.

None of us know anything about farming etc. It's just for his home gardening and I recently learned what a slurry pit is and how dangerous they are regarded. Is this bin in their garden a comparable (but scaled down) concern?

For context, it's in an easily accessible bin in a small rectangle garden (approx. 8mx12m) next to the grass area where four children under-5 play when the weather permits.

Is this a risk I should consider before allowing DD to play in the garden again?

If so, can anyone point me to some information I can share with them? I think they will ignore it and it will stay there for a long time if not prompted. They are also quite ignorant and if they 'had one in our garden when we were kids and we were alright' then they won't acknowledge any risks (they smoke and don't 'believe' in secondhand smoke etc).

Love them and don't what to cause any drama but thinking of children's health first.

@Slowy
I have no idea, I think a friend got him it when he was really keen on gardening and growing veg but then he lost interest!

@FrancisCrawford
Yep I accept from other people that this is not a case for environmental health as I already stated before you posted again that I understood that it isn't a risk. Was I not clear enough for you in accepting I was wrong?
As you also saw I said 'she may have to report it to environmental health', not had to. The additipn of the word 'may' identifies an uncertainty. I did not know and now I do.

They ARE ignorant. When presented with facts about smoking, breastfeeding etc. they do not listen or take on board any new science information. As an example, they believed shutting a door in a bungalow would stop smoking risks to others in the house, given than smoke does not stop as doors ndbtge whole house stunk, it's safe to say they were being ignorant and they refused to listen to reason. That is ignorance. I think most posters who read my post knew what I meant and didn't feel the need to be so literal and pedantic.

*given that smoke does not stop at doors and the whole house stunk,

The inclusion of referring to them as ignorant was that if I was right and that the bin was dangerous, I would need some firm facts to discuss with them.

However it is now clear that I was wrong and those acts aren't needed and their ignorance becomes a moot point.

I didn’t know people were still shepherds these days. Do you just watch sheep all day? Other than herding them what else does the job entail??

Genuinely curious Smile

Leave her alone Francis. She's happily conceded her worries were unfounded. No need to keep picking apart her posts.

@ClashCityRocker I don't know if it's shown in schools but you can view Apaches on YouTube, along with many other PSA horror fests.
