I’ve opened the door using a scarf and melted it around the handle andMr Polka is distraught and furious in equal measure. I know I’m an idiot - can I save it. Will insurance company cover it if not?! Plonker.
Can I get it off? Google suggests a razor blade scrape but co flirting advice on hot or cold surface ConfusedShock. Help me please

OH is a chimney sweep. He gets very tutty about people who store logs to close to their stoves.

Polkapjs · 25/11/2018 21:22

Logs are moving - I’m freaked out now although when I moved them they weren’t warm to the touch at all but I’d rather be safe than sorry. DH will be getting a welder’s gauntlet soon too. That sounds odd sorry..Confused

Don't worry your not the only one. I just moved my logs after reading this. I gave dh a telling off about it as it's him that puts them there.

Osirus · 25/11/2018 22:35

The handle on my log burner doesn’t get hot. I’ve never seen one like yours. Mine is about 10 years old though so I’ve not looked at more recent ones. We also put logs next to the burner to help dry them out. But definitely would be too scared to leave them touching the burner!

Bloomini · 25/11/2018 22:46

Why are people putting logs next to the burner to dry out? You're only supposed to use dry, seasoned logs so if they need to be brought inside next to it to 'dry out' they're either not ready to use yet or they've been stored wrongly.

So dangerous to have logs stored next to the burner too! ShockShockShock

ArabellaUmbrella · 25/11/2018 22:56

I think OP has got the message about the logs peopleHmmWink

Inertia · 25/11/2018 23:14

OP, maybe the scarf crisis was a blessing in disguise now you know to move the logs ...

blackbunny · 25/11/2018 23:28

Just a thought could you remove the handstand replace with a new one, is that possible

blackbunny · 25/11/2018 23:29

Once it's totally cold, try wiping it off with some eucalyptus oil and a baby wipe. Cheap and should work to dissolve it. Once that's done, some soapy water should get the rest of the crud off. Then the glass won't get scratched.

sorry.

PMSL!

Polkapjs · 26/11/2018 16:55

Is that polish for all stove colours? Maybe silly question

Pretty pointless having seasoned logs that are going to get wet then! Why bother?

YeOldeTrout · 26/11/2018 19:09

Tsk Tsk. You women lack imagination. Building log shelters (to keep logs dry) is an excellent way to keep husbands busy and out of trouble trying to redesign other bits of the house.

Lidl or aldi have brilliant gauntlets in over BBQ season, we have had some for years.

we keep the evening's wood next to the fire, we bring in loads, stack some up at the sides, the rest goes in the basket for later or tomorrow. Only in the sitting room fireplace though as that one is never unattended or lit if there is to be no one in.

Polkapjs · 26/11/2018 22:06

We have a log store but the logs were on the drive for 3 weeks before I snapped and nearly broke my back bringing them in and dragging them outside. So they were s bit soggy despite starting out dry!

That one is black @polkapjs but there is a dark steel one too I think

We do exactly the same.
