to ask people to donate money, not food, to food banks?

I've just been thinking about this because it's getting close to Christmas, when more people start making charitable donations. Many food banks cut out the middleman and buy food wholesale in bulk. Cash donations also allow them to prioritise things people really need.

I didn't say anything about rent,Notaclue

Ok....overheads in general then. You did really seem to understand how food banks work or think they all work like your local one.

I didn't say anything about overheads either! Did you read my OP? I said they can buy food in bulk if they receive donations, and that they can prioritise what people really need.

@Weebitawks without in any way outing yourself, can I ask what particular stumbling blocks you feel are preventing an application for charitable status?

It's honestly not a difficult process, and given that many donors can be more comfortable with organisations which are registered, I just wondered if it might help your aims?

There's a pretty good guide to what's involved here: www.resourcecentre.org.uk/information/charity-registration/

Oh for goodness sake.

So now donating food isn’t good enough? Stop making people feel bad and second guess their donations and feel like they aren’t doing enough.

I always assumed the donations of food was psychological if people buy specific items they feel more direct - they can imagine it being used where as money is more abstract. I do always donate money instead personally. Then it can be used on whatever they're short of at that time and it doesn't need to be transported, they can buy it in bulk etc.

Valanice1989 thank you for bringing this to everyones attention. It's brought it to the front of my mind and I will look into it.

I think it's pathetic that other posters are looking to pick holes in your OP. Anyone with half a brain understands what you were saying. Some people are just never happy.

Keep doing what you do - ignore the haters.
