My Dad has bought a foldable chair where the legs attach via pins into a hole which then have to be pressed in to release. The pins are on both side of the leg which means they need to be pressed in with a finger and thumb together. My Dad hasn't got so much strength and worse in the cold when he is outdoors using the chair.

Any suggestions on a tubular type scissor or something he can use?

How wide is the leg that he has to press on either side of?

Something like that is good, tubes are about 1inch wide though.

Would it maybe be a better idea to get a different chair that doesn’t need pins pushing in to fold?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/11/2018 17:14

The Wilko clamp comes in different sizes.
I have something similar that I used to press and hold a button as required during a crafting procedure, I too have weak ham hands

Nut crackers?

PickAChew · 24/11/2018 17:19

Would a pair of ordinary pliers do the trick?

EdithBouvier · 24/11/2018 17:25

Sounds like a lot of hassle can he not just get something else that works better for him? Can you post a pic or link to the chair he has and I'll see if I can suggest something better?

LittleBearPad · 24/11/2018 17:27

Does he need to fold it. Can’t it stay up.

Nov2018 · 25/11/2018 14:29

He needs to fold it as it's to go in a bag for him to take with him on his outdoor activities. He has paid a lot of money for it. He doesn't know I've posted, I thought if I could get something suitable it would be a thoughtful Christmas gift!

Pliers I think may slip and require a steady hand, my Dad's in his seventies and whilst fit, he has developed a shake. But nut crackers or clamps sound pretty perfect if I can find some big enough! Brilliant suggestions from everyone and given me food for thought! Thank you! @FrancesFryer

I have a folding camp chair that I bought from B&M bargains. No pins or buttons to press. You jut push the legs together and it folds and goes in a bag with a shoulder strap. I think it cost £9.99. Possibly £7.99.

Those Wilko clamps should do the job if you get the right size
