To think my neighbour is being unreasonable

I have a very large fur tree in my garden which hangs over my neighbours fence too
I know it was cutting some of the light out of their garden so go someone to cut it down quite a lot.also to cut at the sides as it was getting very bushy and spreading enough to cut light off from my living room
The young man has been to do it this morning , and cut loads off
I havjust had a phone call from my neighbour to ask why he hasnt cut some off their side of the fence, she had apparently already had a go at him, and he said i didnt ask him to, but the general rule is to cut only the side if the person whose tree it is.
Anyway she rang me again and i said ididnt know how it worked only that i had asked him to cut it down to a certain point and cut the top off, which incidentally wasnt bothering me,
My neighbour said well its your bloody tree, and i am not paying anyone to cut my side,
I had told them last summer and before that they could cut some off if they wanted to
I am really annoyed and sad that it has come to this and her being nasty, as i have lived here for 35 years, and looked after their house when they went away etc, and also offered to shop for them as they have both got health problems,
I told her i couldnt afford to pay anymore, couldnt really afford this but apart from the sides the height didnt bother me
I wish now i had left it,
We are both pensioners, but they are older than me and much better off
When the tree was cut down at the top i rang her and asked if it was better and lighter, she said yes much better, but now being nasty because he hasnt cut at her side ,low enough not to cut any light out
Just wondered if it is usual to cut just one side or go all round, in others experience

I didnt have half the tree cut down and the tree isnt looking as if its cut in half, most of her side is cut,its just the bit that hangs over her side of the fence, and the tree surgeon did what he says is usual to do, by the time she complanned to me he had already packed all his stuff up,
I think i was being considerate in cutting off the top which cut her light out, i really wish i had just the part off that was cutting my light out, probably wouldnt have been all the aggro, as they hadnt paticularly complained before, only mentioned it, .made their garden a bit less sunny,i thought i was doing them a favour, but its caused more trouble than its worth, if i had the whole tree chopped down she would still have complained because she didnt want it all the way down, there is no pleasing some people, she was consulted

Pressed too soon,if i hadnt had the tree cut i would still have my wionter fuel allownce, and the little bit i had saved,
I am on a state pension and thats it, should i have got a loan out to please her,
The reason i said they are better off is that if it bothered them that much they should have paid for it, there were no real complaints until i had it chopped back

Who needs winter fuel allowance when you have a nice stash of logs now? Smile

should i have got a loan out to please her,

No, you should have just not had half-a-job done.

princesstiasmum · 25/11/2018 22:12

Not my decision to cut the tree like that, and if you read pinkhorses post you will see her DP does the same job and he says it is usual to do it that way
Anyway i have no guilt about it, i thought i was doing a good thing trying to give her more light, wont do it again,
The tree had been trimmed down the 2 years before last when it should have been done again but was let down
She even complained about the sawdust going on her garden, from her side ,where did she expect it to go?

Ellisandra yes if i had a log burner the logs would have been very handy Smile

Not my decision to cut the tree like that

You should have been clear with the tree surgeon that a full job was required, not just the parts that affect you.

She even complained about the sawdust going on her garden, from her side ,where did she expect it to go?

Of course she did! She got all the crap from the already problem tree yet is still stuck with it blocking all her light.

Stop making excuses OP and take some responsibility.

My neighbours have had work done recently, there was a lot of mess in my driveway and they killed my lawn! I wouldn’t have minded if they had even said sorry, but they just ignored it and watched me sweep and shovel the driveway and reseed the lawn. As usual I siaid nothing - but why can’t people just say sorry about the mess they cause on other people’s property!!

Sorry but this thread has really annoyed me!

And I know OP you accept no criticism and ignore anyone who thinks you are anyway in the wrong, so I am just venting!!!

There's no right to light here. The prescriptions act doesn't apply. You have no legal responsibility to cut anything which overhangs anyone's boundary. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

princesstiasmum · 25/11/2018 22:56

Read it all, her light is no longer cut out,she said so,,shes just annoyed there is just a bit left hanging on her side, if a leaf flies in her garden she has a fit,and has to go get rid of it.and woe betide a dandelion, growing
