In the space of 24 hours I have read of men taking to the streets going door to door to find a christian woman Asia Bibi who was found not guilty by the courts in Pakistan. They seem to want her dead.

Today a woman who gave birth to a child, the husband has for eighteen months used the courts to silence her.

Got me thinking is it a cultural thing, or something else.

Asia Bibi wasn’t executed straight away because she was a woman. If she’d been a man she probably wouldn’t have survived the journey to the police station after the incident in question. Her situation is solely because Pakistan doesn’t give a shit about it’s non-Muslim population(s).

And in the Serwar’s case is no different to any rich white male cheater who uses his wealth to manipulate the courts.

If you are only using examples with an Asian aspect you will of course be suggesting a cultural nature to these actions. Why not widen your telescope and study a broader range of disgusting behaviour towards women. Believe me it is worldwide and something that crosses all cultural divides. Nice to know all cultures have something in common isn’t it?

AngelsSins · 23/11/2018 18:37

Seeing as rape happens in every country around the world, in just about every culture, I’d say it’s not a cultural thing.

silkpyjamasallday · 23/11/2018 18:40

What culture are you talking about OP? Your sources are from places with very different cultures. Seems like ra

Pressed post too soon. It seems like rather a jump to make that it's specific to Asian and middle eastern cultures. Two women a week are murdered by their partners or ex partners in this country. It's three a day in America.

Yes. Misogyny only exists in the Land of Forrin.

Circles of Willis -

Which is why I asked is it a cultural thing or do men however they are raised hate women? Were they badly treated by Mothers. sisters, I find that hard to believe in the main, or were they taught by the men in their families to disrespect women.

I cannot imagine gangs of men wandering around Britain or America, going door to door, looking for a woman to murder though.

I read the OP's post as meaning is it generally a cultural thing to hate women. Not that it's unique to certain cultures, because it clearly isn't. It's just that in some cultures it is legally permitted and even encouraged, whereas in other cultures eg the UK there is at least lipservice paid to the thought that women matter to. Even though we still have a long way to go.

HopeGarden · 23/11/2018 18:52

There’s examples of hate against women worldwide, in every culture that I can think of.

It’s certainly not something that only happens in Pakistan or Dubai.

madmum5811 · 23/11/2018 18:54

Asia Bibi did have support but spent 8 years behind bars.

@madmum5811 - I lived in an inner city area where young white boys would go door to do to find other young white boys to kill.

Is that something from a novel e.g. Lord of the Rings - Forrin...
