Hi all,

So I had my DS2 (4 months ago) and my hair is just falling out.

I know it’s normal but the AMOUNT of hair that is coming out is insane. I can brush it in the morning and fill up the paddle brush and then do the same 2 hours later.

I’ve just washed it and it’s coming out in handfuls. I’ve googled and it’s come up with a few brands but has anyone tried them? Do they work? Do the hair vitamins work? How long does this last?

I wouldn’t mind but the hairs are everywhere. I even find them in my sons nappy when I change him Confused

I’m hoovering all the time as I don’t want him to get them wrapped around fingers / toes etc.

Any advice would be great!

Thank you x

This happened to me too. I even debated going for a pixie cut to stop having to deal with all the hairs.
I found a protein rich diet helped accelerate the new growth, massaging before washing to help loosen the dead hair etc. After 3 months you could see all the new baby hairs. A Silkie turban when sleeping helped as well.
I was told you just have to let the dead hairs your scalps been clinging to for 9 months out so the new growth can start. It was 6 months of hair misery, scarves and hats.

Smurfybubbles · 23/11/2018 10:31

I was the exact same DS now 6.5 months and it's still coming out thick and fast!! My hairline receded a shocking amount but has since started growing back in my hairline in tufts Envy also my eyebrows and eyelashes fell out!
I massage castor oil into my hair brows and eyelashes which helped and I've just ordered some maximum strength biotin supplements as apparently they help!

SilverBirchTree · 23/11/2018 11:06

The same happened to me. Only now (baby 13 months!) is it starting to fill out again. Are you having enough protein?

RoboticSealpup · 23/11/2018 11:07

All you're going to get here is weird anecdotal stuff like "I ate half a lemon soaked in Manuka honey and vitamin A every morning, coupled with acupuncture every full moon and saw improvement after three months". The problem clears up by itself so you're never going to know whether it's something you did, or not.

Sorry, this wasn't intended to come across bitchy, but I had the same problem and there just wasn't a solution.

Muddytoes1 · 23/11/2018 11:23

Same happened to me, was shocked how much came out. Afraid I have to agree there’s not a whole lot you can do. I cut mine a bit shorter so less noticeable and tied it back quite a bit so I wouldn’t be shedding all over he place. It will stop soon and start growing back before you know it Smile.

Thanks everyone.

I keep it up all the time to minimise the loose hair falling out but then my friend told me that’s bad because it pulls at your hair Confused

I wash it every other day. Just getting fed up of my shower looking like someone has shaved a yeti in there.

Maybe I will book myself in for a cut and get a few inches taken off.

Thanks again x

You should probably get some bloods done just in case. I thought it was normal, everyone told me it was, but when I went I was severely deficient in iron, zinc and vitamin d and as soon as I started the supplements the regrowth was amazing.

ShadyLady53 · 23/11/2018 11:53

If you find out your Iron or Ferritin levels are low try taking Ferrous Fumarate with a Lysine and Vitamin C Tablet 2 hours before or after food. This really helps up Ferritin and Iron Levels enough to support hair growth. Castor oil also helps new hair to grow. Check it’s all safe if you’re BFing though!

Pyjamaface · 23/11/2018 11:58

DS is 9 and the amount of hair I still lose is amazing! I could have probably sculpted a life size hair model of myself twice over.

I've had it long, short and everything in between, I take Iron and Vit D supplements and nothing has helped. It seems the more it falls out, the thicker it grows back again

Bobbiepin · 23/11/2018 12:00

Don't start taking iron supplements if you aren't deficient. Too much iron has a seriously negative effect on your body and can be fatal.

I had a few bald spots develop after I had each of my two sons, and fully expected the same to happen after my 3rd and 4th, but no. They happened to be girls, and I have often wondered since if hair loss can be related to the baby's sex.

quiltedcameltoe · 23/11/2018 14:23

My second is now 7 months and the hair loss is just slowing down like you the amount I lost hourly was outrageous (probably not helped by my hair being very dark!!). I have tufts of new regrowth this all over my head, I haven't taken anything at all. The problem evens out then improves all by itself.

Fishandthechips · 23/11/2018 14:32

My post partum hair loss was horrendous! I honestly believed I was going to go bald. Everytime I brushed my hair I would end up with a hair ball the size of the palm of my hand. I ended up keeping it up 24/7 after finding a strand of my hair wrapped tightly around my babies toe cutting of circulation... It lasted about 3 months for me and my baby is 6 months now and hair loss has stopped. I dont think vitamins will do much as its hair that has reached the falling out stage (cant remember the technical term for this) so needs to come out, hopefully it will tail off soon though.

RChick · 23/11/2018 14:37

I don't have any solutions but mine slowed at about 5 months, now at 7 months i have tufts of new hair coming through. All i can recommend is regular hair cuts.

cadburysflake · 23/11/2018 14:53

I don't have any magic cure I'm afraid, although I got pregnant again when my eldest was 9 months old so my hair thickened up again (that's maybe not a solution!).

After my second child was born it was scary how much hair actually fell out, it was like 2 pregnancies worth, my husband would often look horrified if he saw the amount that came out just brushing. It's nearly 17 months since I had my second child and my hair started to look noticeably thicker at about 12 months I'd say. Although I've no magic cure I just wanted to say that it does come back. I was convinced that I was going to be left with 3 strands of hair at one point and didn't think it'd ever be thick again, it's getting there now though.
