Posting here for traffic as I’m desperate Sad

I have 3 dc. Dd5 Ds3 and Dd 5 months. My Ds absolutely cannot stand the baby crying. He full on loses his shit and cries, runs around with his fingers in his ears and often shuts himself in his room if she cries. It’s at the point now where she only has to whimper before he loses it. I’d say she’s a reasonably good baby and doesn’t really cry that much but I don’t know how much more I can take!

Has anyone ever seen experienced this and has any tips or advise? I’m desperate!! Thanks!

I have seen this before, yes. Is your ds very sensitive to other noises (hoovers, hot air hand driers)? Is he fussy in other ways - clothes he'll wear, food he'll eat ?

That’s quite an extreme reaction...

My son was three when I had my second baby and he barely even noticed any crying, he seemed to be able to just blank it out.

I wonder if there’s a medical reason for his reaction, some issues with his ears or hearing or something? Perhaps a trip to the GP may help?

GP sounds like a good idea. It is not unusual for toddlers to develop sensory issues and I’m sure you know yourself the gut wrenching feeling of when your baby cries.

Maybe get the 3 yrs old some ear defenders.

He’s never been noise sensitive until this. He will now cover his ears when other children cry and at the weekend we were at a kids party with an entertainer and he didn’t like the cheering and squealing from other children.

I’ve wondered about taking him to the gp but not sure if they’d just say it’s a reaction to new baby etc. He also started nursery in September. I have spoken to nursery and they say they have no concerns there. He really loves going but I think he likes to get away from the baby!
