To ask neighbours to turn their Christmas lights around?

The house nearly opposite us has put up some Christmas lights in their front garden - fairy lights in the tree, a couple of little reindeer things made of lights and lights spelling out Ho Ho Ho! in their front garden. It doesn’t look too ott, it’s not flashing and there are only a couple of blue lights scattered across tree and hidden in with other colours.

But....... they have put the Ho Ho Ho! to face their house. So from anywhere other than their kitchen it looks like it says !oH oH oH. They have admittedly switched them off for the night now but I know they’ll be back on tomorrow and I don’t want to look at !oH oH oH for the next month.

Would this drive you mad? Dm says I’m overreacting because I’ve been curtain twitching all evening hoping they’ll realise and turn them around. Or maybe they’ve done it on purpose Shock. Front garden lights are definitely for the benefit of others and you place them based on how they’ll be viewed from a passerby’s POV don’t you? Or have I got it completely wrong and you put them up so they look nice when you look out of your own window?

I’d like to go around and ask them about it but I don’t know them and am a complete coward.

serin sticking googly eyes on things immediately makes them better.

I don’t think I can rearrange them - it looks like it’s all stuck together. It still looks crap tonight and it’s still annoying me. There is a storm going on at the moment though so hopefully the bastard thing will get struck by lightning.

Houses are decorated already! Wow!

@ZacPosenatemyhamster
Only if I can go round to our neighbours and ask them to take down the gazebo that they've had up since July. I'm sick of looking at it
Have you asked them to move it? Our neighbours asked us to move our summerhouse and I've spend two weeks preparing a new place for it to go. Ask them to move their tatty gazebo.

Does it matter? Your curtains will be shut when it's dark anyway.

Does seem a bit naff though, having a illuminated Christmas sign in the middle of the garden, with the back facing towards the outside world - so it reads backwards to everyone else.

You could mention it to them, to see if they know.

What's everyone's beef with blue lights then?

I live in a flat so haven't experienced the 'neighbours with lights' blue or Oh! Before. But I can't imagine blue lights being that bad?
I know your issue is the wording but I saw you mention blue lights as well.

My husband thought he would help with Xmas sticker things you put on the window, you guessed it oh oh oh, what a twat Grin

@thatinehurt

Blue lights are cold and the least Christmassy thing ever. Even worse when they’re flashing as it looks like you’ve constantly got the police attending an emergency

LagunaBubbles · 24/11/2018 08:55

No it wouldn't bother me, don't see why it would, not my garden, not my lights. Don't care what others do to theirs.

BathFullOfEels · 24/11/2018 09:24

winterwitch it does matter. It starts with Christmas lights being put up backwards in November- I dread to think where it could lead.
