To think there's no point booking a Tesco Xmas priority delivery slot this year?

Last year I booked my slot when they opened in November, so a month's notice. I did a proper Xmas shop and didn't just reserve the space with vodka. I treated us to finest this and that for dinner, lovely deserts etc. things that were a bit of a treat that we wouldn't normally have.

When the shopping came most items for dinner were substitutes of lesser value. So aibu to think there's no point reserving a delivery slot for it to come with none of the food I actually ordered a month ago? Surely Tesco should be allocating and prioritising the food and not just the delivery? Or have I missed something?

if its stuff that will keep, then order it sooner - unfortunately the pickers get the shopping from the shopfloor same as those who go shopping so its luck of the draw really

Not having a go - I online shop and get really frustrated when things dont come, but its the price we pay for not having to schlep to the shop and fight off the other shoppers! :)

It's irritating. I update my basket frequently in the run up to Christmas and each time I do I get messages to say out of stock etc. I don't know if they penalise you for making changes or if they just don't reserve items for their online customers but I feel your pain. To be fair I don't think it applies to all supermarkets.

Pebblesandfriends · 22/11/2018 17:03

That should have read applies to all supermarkets....

What I do is get a delivery on the 22nd and then pop out for anything special that was out of stock that is a must have.

YANBU. I placed an order last year and half of my shop was missing. So I still had to get in the car and go to the supermarket. At least in the shop I can choose my own substitute or even change the menu entirely if too many ingredients are unavailable.

@Pebbles They don’t reserve any of your items. Your shopping list is picked on the morning of your delivery. Morning delivery slots get picked first thing but evening delivery slots get picked later on in the morning.

Can only speak for tesco delivery but would assume most supermarkets operate the same.

We always do our shopping online but prefer to do the Christmas shop in store, I feel it's too important to mess up or miss something... as for the mad bastards that order their Turkey on it... fuck that.

Online supermarket deliveries from places like Tesco's don't pre allocate food. They have actual pickers who take the food off the shelves that day, or for early deliveries the previous evening possibly. Hence why you will get more subs at busy times. I guess they don't have the storage space to be able to store delivery food in a separate location before it goes out.

Northernlass69 · 22/11/2018 18:36

I think I may do it but ask for no subs, then shop in store for what they don't bring.
