Wandering what is cheaper out there. DH is going to Orlando and Miami with work and I want to give him a list of things to get me and the kids.

Not sure with the exchange rate if things will be cheaper.

trojanpony · 22/11/2018 06:58

trojanpony · 22/11/2018 06:58

Droppingly*

Valasca · 22/11/2018 07:02

What age are kids? lol doll stuff is cheaper. Our generation doll accessories are ridiculously cheaper (get them at Target). But keep a look out for store’s own coupons (flyers/electronic ones/sign up to be a store member) as they can make a massive difference. I found a 25% off single toy at Target in a flyer after a big purchase and went to customer service who happily let me return/repurchase my toy for $30 less.

BigGreenOlives · 22/11/2018 07:07

There’s 6.5% sales tax in Orlando and 7% in Miami. The tax is added at the till rather than included in the sticker price the way it is in the UK.

Massive bottles of ibuprofen. Maple syrup. Interesting baking stuff like peanut butter chips. Really good ziploc bags. Frozen prawns (though not really one to bring back with you though!! Grin)

Alfie190 · 22/11/2018 07:14

If you have nothing in mind, don’t bother? Sounds like buying something for the sake of it.

tactum · 22/11/2018 07:21

Brands! Like Tommy Hilfiger, north face, Adidas. Nordstrom rack is brilliant for CK underwear.

JellyBears · 22/11/2018 07:24

Chips ahoy cookies 🍪

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 22/11/2018 07:26

Victoria Secrete PINK jumpers! They are just sooo comfy and soooo ££££ over here.

budgiegirl · 22/11/2018 07:29

Swedish Fish! My kids reckon it’s the best candy ever - and I think I agree with them

maxiflump1 · 22/11/2018 07:29

Timberland boots. I paid less than half the price than they would have been in the U.K. 6 years ago and they still look as good as new.

Aragog · 22/11/2018 07:33

Depends on age of children.

Exchange rate isn't great at present and not so many real bargains. Make sure you know the price of things in the UK before going to compare and remember to add on the tax, as not shown on price tickets.

If young children using YouTube - the Ryan's Review tits are mainly at Target.

If pre teens+ brands like Hollister, Abercrombie, Pink etc are usually same price in dollars as GBP so still cheaper.

We found the outlet stores like the U.K. cheaper but not always the actual stock you want.

Jackshouse · 22/11/2018 07:36

Apple products

Katiet123 · 22/11/2018 07:38

Levi's are sometimes on offer. I got a pair in Macy's for $20

noenergy · 22/11/2018 07:42

@Aragog my DS is obsessed with Ryan's toy reviews do thanks for the info.

@trojanpony I would love a few nice handbags.

@Alfie190 it's not just for the sake of getting something. I could write a really long list but want to know what is cheaper there as I don't have time to research everything.

noenergy · 22/11/2018 07:49

The kids are DD age 9, DS age 6, DD age 5.

They would love a suitcase full of toys and I would like clothes, makeup, handbags and shoes. So just looking for suggestions and brands cheaper there.

Also edible items as DD 9 has a bit of a sweet tooth but have heard the chocolate tastes vile.

Lots of outlet malls in Orlando but he’d need to be prepared to dig around them to find what you want.

Target has cute kids clothes and all the junk food. I don’t find makeup that much cheaper in the US. I was in Sephora back in May and my Bare Minerals primer cost the same there as here. But the selection is better so check if there’s products you can’t get here (Olapkex, Ouai, niche brands like Herbivor).

user187656748 · 22/11/2018 07:57

Exchange rate is really not great anymore. The US is not a cheap place to shop. I wouldn't be buying anything unless its something you just can't get hold of in the UK and you're desperate for.

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 22/11/2018 08:00

Yeah the sweet stuff is vile out there. I wouldn't bother with chocolates or cookies or things like that.

Im going out there next week and i cant wait

Blacktoffeecat · 22/11/2018 08:06

It wasn’t much cheaper when we went- May.
We bought drugs- cold cures, sleep aids etc from Walmart. Jeans- Lucky Brand are nice.
Secret deodorant- I can’t use any other now.
Toys were not much cheaper so didn’t get much at all as most things are available here too now.
I did raid Oshkosh for DS though.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/11/2018 08:10

You can get peanut butter chips and butterscotch chips for baking from Amazon.

Levi’s or NYDJ for $30 in Macy’s sale.
