AIBU to think that nothing is properly "naff" anymore?

Didn't that used to be the stalwart against mass consumption?

So many things are 'properly naff'

Glittery glasses / bottles
Glittery wallpaper
Facebook crafty selling tat
Christmas inflatable light up lifesize characters
The list could go on...

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2018 20:05

It really depends on what you think 'naff' is I think. One person's 'naff' is another's taste.

I know what you mean.
Nasty cheap greetings cards that don’t stand up.
Really bad carpet.
Nasty crockery

Theperfectchangeling · 21/11/2018 20:08

Get yourself onto the ‘bad boys of christmas tat thread’ OP that’ll fix it. Grin

You can thank me later.

So many naff things...

Interiors
Curtains that finish at the bottom of a window rather than floor length
Eyelet Curtains
Vertical office blinds in a home
Cheap carpet
Mismatched novelty mugs
Laminate flooring
Bling of any kind

Fashion
Shumpers or mock layered clothing
Jeggings
Clear bra straps
Belly button piercings
OTT branding

I could go on...

CherryPavlova · 21/11/2018 20:11

Oh there is plenty that remains naff.

immummynoiam · 21/11/2018 20:11

Isn’t the problem with naff that implies that there is some universal standard of taste? Whereas beauty is in the eye of the beholder these days although certain groups choose certain things to self identify?

Racecardriver · 21/11/2018 20:11

Loads of stuff is naff. In particular fluffy or sparkly (or both!) stuff.

Boswellox · 21/11/2018 20:24

I don't think there is a general consensus that fluffy and sparkly automatically = naff.
