Did you find it relatively easy or not?

I appear to have reached a stumbling block... my maiden name isnt that common and managed to go back to the 1700s
My parental grandmother is German and I have no idea how to trace that branch
My maternal grandmother was welsh and surname was Jones... my maternal grandfather (also welsh) was an Evans!

Just interested to see how well others have done and did you uncover any interesting stories or anecdotes from your research?

I would find this very difficult with no certificates of any sort to start with. My ancestors traveled to Australia and many changed their names or lied about ages etc for a fresh start.

@FunkyKingston my living family are to put it simply, a bit shit. Researching my family tree gives me some sense of belonging that I never had growing up, and I find genetics/ancestry in general fascinating.

JustDanceAddict · 23/11/2018 12:50

I find it fascinating and a couple of relatives have done trees but not v far back. I’m 3 Gen English and not sure it would be easy to go further back past late 19th C.

The most exciting thing there was occasional incest Yep we have some of that too...Envy (not envy). Obviously had little entertainment or options in those parts of the highlands. There are stories of cousins marrying as recently as the 19th century; physically we seem fine but there are definitely hereditary mental issues that we feel might stem from the interbreeding.

@necromumda

Again I had great luck searching the online Australian Newspapers, the transport lists seem really patchy and inaccurate (especially for ages in my case)
Did your family have a trade they might have set up doing?
The Australian death/probate records are incredibly detailed.

Imagine if that was one’s approach to sex, darling you’re simply not effective or rigorous enough 😀

I've had worse write ups

I've got a couple of those lines too, but one of them had a bit of a career progression - in his 60's & 70's he was head gardener at Harptree Court near Bristol where series 3 & 4 of GBBO were filmed.
