AIBU no loyalty?

I make a living selling supplies to do with my craft, things are going ok but not brilliantly in the current climate ...I could do with more sales and my friends are all aware of this.

But I keep seeing my friends on Social media bragging about products they have bought else where (the EXACT same products I sell). They are the same price as I sell them at (they would in fact get discount buying from me) and I also offer online services. I can’t see any other advantages they’d be getting buying directly from the brand itself.

AIBU to be a bit pissed that they aren’t giving me the custom? I know I would in the reverse. Bearing in mind these are friends that I have helped out & get a foot in the door in this industry but there is just no loyalty.

Maybe they get a discount for promoting then on social media?

PawPawNoodle · 21/11/2018 13:26

YABU, they don't owe you their custom friends or not.

I wouldn't buy off of my friends just because I know them, in fact I would be inclined not to just in case there's any issues. I'd much rather complain to a company than to someone I know.

MrsStrowman · 21/11/2018 13:29

I hate being consistently Sold to by 'friends' on social media, I'll buy what I like from where I like. #makingmylittlebusinessgrow 🤮 if it was a business you wouldn't be relying on constantly flogging crap to people you know, you'd have a market.

newtothisriver · 21/11/2018 13:31

Yes YABU

I actively avoid buying from friends. It can really make things awkward if there is a problem.

JimCricket · 21/11/2018 13:36

Ok, perfectly happy to be told AIBU

However it is a real business & it’s not it’s most definitely not MLM. I’m not constantly flogging to people on social media, they know where my business is at.

Need to be more direct! I go door to door with my "patented" Grin Gravel Berry Cake. They won't refuse when your standing on there door! Wink

JimCricket · 21/11/2018 16:41

Haha, yes I’ll take my Herbalife & NU products right to their door ....see them evade me now! Not today bitches

YABU. They have no obligation to buy from you and I secind the PP who said if there are issues they would prefer to complain to a company than a friend.

Wx1994 · 21/11/2018 16:57

Ah, so multi level marketing.

MamaLovesMango · 21/11/2018 17:07

It’s funny OP but we had an almost identical situation at the weekend. DH runs a business offering a niche service and a good friend im thinking of taking the ‘good’ away due to various things to be honest, who has been there through the set up and witnessed many of the trials and tribulations and all we have been through to make it a success, joyfully told us how happy she was with her experience of the exact same service from a direct competitor. My jaw did drop rather, especially as she was raving about them rather insensitively. I was gutted to be honest (and I’ve not told DH as I’m not sure how he’d feel and I wouldn’t want to hurt him) but I allowed myself a little wallow then gave my head a wobble. I reminded myself she doesnt owe us anything and asked myself would I use my hairdresser friend exclusively forever and ever out of loyalty to a friend? The answer is no. I’d use whichever hairdresser fitted my circumstances at the time.

So, YANBU to feel a bit Hmm but don’t let it linger or destroy any friendships over it.

MamaLovesMango · 21/11/2018 17:09

Is it really Herbalife and NU products? If so, disregard everything I’ve just said because YWDBU to even consider peddling that MLM shit to your friends

JimCricket · 21/11/2018 17:16

No I’m joking it’s most definitely not MLM lol. I run a real business in a niche market

Glad to hear it Jim. Those bastards make a mockery out of hard working small business owners.

JimCricket · 21/11/2018 17:25

I’m trying to explain this better, I have a craft or trade. I also supply products that can be used for this trade.

My friend has recently joined the trade (she done work experience with me, I paid her way more than necessary and always put work her way before anyone else when she worked in another job before that) so picking up all my experience etc. Not a problem I wish her well & every success with - I’m sure she will do well.

But I see she purchased several items that I sell from someone else, like the exact same brand. It’s not really the type of item to have any comeback with it or a problem etc.

Yanbu. Seems like its jealousy or just spite to not want to support you. I can't think of another reason why a good friend wouldnt.
