To not know how to clean my house?

WeirdHandDryers · 21/11/2018 11:26

I’ve never been house proud, wasn’t brought up to be but when DH and I bought our current house, I fell in love with it and want it to be clean and sparkly because for once, I’m proud of my house.
However, after years of not bothering, I don’t really know how.

So my main thing is the floors. I have a vikeda moo which is used to clean the kitchen floor of poo and piss (dog). Can I somehow clean the mop and do the rest of my floors with it or do I need a new mop?

Yes, I know I’m shit.

You are leaving the dog too long. The dog is not happy.

Feed them a small amount. Give the dog a good groom and let them out for a wee before you go. That helps to settle them.

And don’t shut the poor dog in the kitchen! If they are anxious, they want to go where they feel most relaxed, and it also helps if they can see out.

Have a look at the organised mum method. It’s great for people who aren’t natural cleaners Wink

For a start you need to do something about your dogs pissing and pooing over your kitchen floor

Dog trainer here 👋 Long training based reply here (sorry in advance for the length):

Separation anxiety to the point where there's urination or defecation is extremely severe and, ideally, the dog should not be left alone, at all, until a solution is found and worked through. IMHO you need to question whether this is fair on the dog really (sorry to point that out, but it is true).

However, what you may think is SA could just be incorrect toilet training. The following questions help to suss it out:

  1. Does the dog mess with you in the room?
  2. Does the dog mess with you in the house, but not the same room?
  3. Does the dog toilet when let outside into the garden?
  4. Are you cleaning the mess with a) bleach or b) water/mild antibac?

If yes to question 1, the dog is simply not understanding toilet training or where to go, or he/she may have a bladder/colon problem. Vet check needed before retraining, properly.

If yes to question 2, the dog is more likely to have been told off for defecating/urinating in front of a human, and therefore, he/she doesn't know where to go but he/she just knows definitely not in front of a human. Vet check to rule anything out and retraining, properly.

If yes to question 3 - are you rewarding that? With food? Is it on cue like "go to toilet"? It should be, work on that, it's very useful to have that on command!

If yes to 4, your unknowingly making the pee smell stronger, thus creating a cycle of "here is the toilet". Immediately stop using bleach or bleach-based anti-bac. Zoflora, for all it's haters, is one of the best things to use on hard floors. Alternatively, a pricey bottle of special stuff from the pet shop will also work!

Wishing you all the best with this situation - it's a stuggle to have a clean house with dogs and kids anyway (3 collies and counting here), let alone an incontinent one too Sad

All the people giving the OP a hard time, just quit it ffs. First of all, urine is sterile. I hardly think the OP is whacking a turd with the mop and smearing it all over the carpet and stairs. Yoru bloody uptight drama llamas.

You also don't know the circs behind the dog peeing in the house. I have a horrifically traumatised rescue that was on the verge of death as nobody could put up with him and his constant peeing through fear. I took him on and have reduced the problem by 95% but know he will always have the odd accidents. You may not be prepared to deal with that sort of thing but PLENTY of people are a damn sight more compassionate than you are.

OP. Get the squirty mop with replaceable fabric heads on. I have 10 heads and mine has been a life saver. fabric heads go on once a day and then in the wash. I put antibac cleaner in the and use that to clean up and then a normal mop to go all over once a day. Mine is like this but was £6 from home bargains and then i ordered new pads online.

Once a week I hoover all the way through ( my dog has stress induced alopecia so no fur). I wipe/polish once I have hoovered and do clothes washing on a Saturday, bedding and towels on a Sunday. Every day I try to do extra in one room. So a deep clean in the bathroom on Monday. Window insides on Tuesday. kitchen unit doorsm sink hob on Wednesday. Tidy bedrooms on Thursday. I keep a plastic box on the stairs for each room and anything I find goes in the right box. So hairbrushes and bobbles go into my daughter box, pens into my sons. then everyday the kids have to do a sweep and find/box all their bitsnbobs or they go in the bin. Then boxes get sorted in rooms, and boxes put back ready to be refilled.

Er get the dog to go outside. Mist dogs defecate after eating so feed it breakfast and let it out. It will go. And obv walk it midday etc and then should be fine till tea and again feed then walk for more defecation etc.

cowfacemonkey · 21/11/2018 12:55

If your dogs seperation anxiety is that bad you need to stop leaving him at all and work with a behaviourist day to resolve it. There is a great dog behaviour support group on Facebook. Please don’t leave him to get so distressed.

allyouneedis · 21/11/2018 13:09

Was coming on to say the same about watching the videos on YouTube. I would get a separate mop for the pee/ poo and use it only for that and the second mop everywhere else. Also if you havent already get puppy mats for the floor, they usually learn to use them quite quick then move it closer to the door every time they do the toilet on one.

Look up the organised mum method.

Your poor dog is absolutely miserable and riddled with anxiety. Get that sorted.
