What would you think I meant?

I study with the ou. Tonight a tutor called me (Which never happens) because a new trimester started a couple of weeks ago and i haven't logged in to that paper yet.

I tried to explain that when I study I tend to focus heavily on one paper at a time, so I said "I tend to binge when I study". Realised as soon as I hung up that most people would think I meant binge eat or drink.

I'll likely never speak to her again but still a bit embarrassed. Is she going to think I'm avoiding mg study so that I don't gorge myself or get wasted? Thinking that first assignment is going to have to be brilliant now.

I know what you meant. Im sure your assignment will be good anyway!

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2018 08:30

You're over thinking this, do you have a binge eating disorder. I am struggling with why you'd be so worried about this otherwise.

Cuttingthegrass · 21/11/2018 08:31

I would get what you meant

Trills · 21/11/2018 08:31

She'll have done her duty in checking up on you, you've confirmed that you intend to do the paper in the expected time, she will carry on with her life and won't be thinking about you at all.

Chaosandcalamity · 21/11/2018 08:31

Oh god, DH and bf both think it's hilarious. This is bad.

No I use binge in that sort of context all the time
Relax!

Chouetted · 21/11/2018 08:32

Very very likely she knew exactly what you meant.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 21/11/2018 08:32

It's pretty obvious you mean studying, you are insulting her intelligence by suggesting she won't understand

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2018 18:01

Ok. Confused

BlueJava · 21/11/2018 18:14

It's fine, it's obvious to me what you meant. If you had been talking about food then fair enough, but you were talking about studying.

RosieStarr · 21/11/2018 18:16

I think they’ll know what you meant, lots of people at the OU do that and although you’re not encouraged to do it that way it’s up to you how you study.

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/11/2018 19:16

I'm sure they will know what you meant. But having put my first assignment in, are they checking up because you are approaching a deadline?

Chouetted · 21/11/2018 19:24

You must all have very proactive tutors, I think I've only ever been contacted once, after I'd missed an assignment deadline to ask if I wanted a retroactive extension (they have significantly more flexibility if an assignment doesn't count towards your final result).

I apologised for forgetting to let him know that I'd decided to skip it, and that was that.

Singlenotsingle · 21/11/2018 19:43
