To rant about maternity dresses

I'm 5ft 5, which I'm sure is the UK's 'average', yet every maternity dress is so long!

Can't get any in shops anywhere, went shopping at the weekend and either got 'we don't do maternity' or 'we only do it online'. I don't know how to dress this body yet.. how does online help me!

Even Asos, have that weird not short, not long, but too flouncy to look like a decent midi length thing going on.

Just because I'm pregnant, doesn't mean I don't just want a nice simple, above the knee dress!

Just needed a little rant... (Christmas party struggles!)

I only bought one extra item of clothing during pregnancy, it was this skirt

www.missguided.co.uk/black-jersey-midi-skirt-10123209

Double layer jersey so not see through, and fit from the beginning of pregnancy till the end and beyond. Can be dressed up or down. Most maternity wear is woeful and so frustrating to find in the first place. Nine in the mirror was due to close down soon, have a look on there for non maternity maternity wear you might get a bargain.

Jo Jo Maman Bebe was the best as it actually lasted beyond 28 weeks and the dresses doubled up for feeding too. Not the most sophisticated styles for my short legs but at least they managed to cope with a mixture of being a size 8 with a 43 inch waist! The likes of Dorothy Perkins only got me from 8 weeks to the end of the second trimester. It might have been a humungous bump, but other parts such as my shoulders remained unchanged.

I noticed a big shift in High St to online only between DS1 (8) and DS2 (5). Annoying as I needed to see how flexible the cut was after my previous sizing issues. The pregnancies were different seasons so while I was heavily pregnant enough to manage the first pregnacy through the coldest December on record, I needed to layer up more to get me through to Spring second time.

**And what the hell is with all the horizontal stripes?! I already look like an oil tanker thanks

Haha I have so much stripey stuff. I don’t particularly like it but it seems obligatory!

Jojo maman wrap dresses have been my go to for work. Nice length and can be dressed up or down. I am so bored with my maternity clothes though but don’t want to buy anymore stuff.

You might come to appreciate the extra length as you get bigger. I had a great dress from new look in my first pregnancy that was just over the knee and looked nice. In this pregnancy it is only acceptable to wear it as a tunic top. I have become a beached whale and all of the length is needed for my ever increasing bump. Be warned!

I was so disappointed with the range of maternity stuff in my local H and M.

It was shit. 2 rows of trousers and 3 different tops. That was all I had to choose from.

Also ebay is very good for mat stuff - since your not going to be wearing it for very long why spend loads of cash? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks everyone for your tips!

This was delivered today, it was supposed to be for a Christmas party but the material is quite thin and clingy. I'm going to keep it though as it fits well, and thought it would be fine with some tights and flat boots to wear casually.

Although... going to reorder as ASOS now have 20% off! It was £28 but I'm all for saving a fiver on a dress that's only gonna last me a couple of months
