To ask for your experience with amber bracelets

DD 6mth is teething. I used dentinox teething gel and calpol which work fine but on the odd night (eg last night) she woke up screaming because of her teeth and hasn't slept all day, calpol helps slightly but I don't want to be dosing her up.

I'm tempted to order an amber bracelet or anklet but would like to hear experience of them on a young baby, or if they are a waste of money

At best they’re just something for baby to chew on.
At worst? A dangerous choking hazard.
I wouldn’t bother.

exexpat · 20/11/2018 15:38

They have no effect on teething pain and are actually a choking hazard - avoid.

ex has beaten me to it with that link.

They have no scientific mechanism of action and they’re a choking hazard.

Don’t.

TeddyIsaHe · 20/11/2018 15:40

They don’t do anything (charge them up by putting them in the sun? Come on!) and even on an ankle are a massive choking hazard for baby.

Just use anbesol liquid which is actual magic.

Mammyloveswine · 20/11/2018 15:42

I hate them! Especially the ones worn around babies necks... I just think how dangerous they are!

Ime the people who use these are the same people who bang on about "leaps" and need a "reason" for every grumble their baby makes...

Lamona · 20/11/2018 15:45

They are mumbo jumbo
And i got one for DD and put it on her ankle at night (in sleeping bag)and that night she slept right through. When it got too small we stopped putting it on. She screamed all night that night. We got a bigger one and kept it on at night until all her teeth came through
It was like £8. Yes i still think my circumstantial evidence doesn't prove they work. But for £8 I didn't really care.

ouchyoubiteybugger · 20/11/2018 15:49

There used to be a powder in a white folded paper called Ashton and Parsons that was brilliant for teething. The downside it did look like you were rubbing cocaine on baby's gums !

Aquamarine1029 · 20/11/2018 15:58

They're bullshit and a very serious choking hazzard. Don't bother.

Loyaultemelie · 20/11/2018 15:59

I had an anklet on Dd2 and she never had any bother with teething unlike dd1 although we didn't have it charged first. I also wear one (necklace) I bought it for migraines which it hasn't helped but has massively helped my wrist and arm pain from fibro

InDubiousBattle · 20/11/2018 16:02

Anbesol is good, paracetamol is good (why not dose her up if she's in pain?). Amber teething necklaces/bracelets are a load of bollocks.

FeckingEjit · 20/11/2018 17:37

Used one on DS's ankle and his teething symptoms disappeared within the hour. For 3 days he wouldn't eat, drink or sleep and we had to apply teething gel literally every few minutes to allow him to drink water and have purée foods . As soon as it was on his gums stopped swelling, rosy cheeks went away and he was back to his normal happy self. I'd recommend them to try and I will 100% use them if I had another.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 20/11/2018 17:43

With the others here - entirely placebo effect, which would be fine if they were harmless, but the beads are a choking hazard. A flannel half dipped in water and then out in the freezer for a few hours worked well with my DCs.
