to take baby to doctor for 'no reason'?

If I turned up at my doctors due to a gut feeling my baby isn't right, WIBU?

He just isn't himself. Crying more. Sleeping differently. Only done one poo in 24 hours. All these things could be normal...

It just doesn't feel right for some reason.

How old is he op?

RemoteRamona · 20/11/2018 15:24

He's one month old.

I’d take him op, he’s only a month old. If you are worried then they will listen.

Allfednonedead · 20/11/2018 15:25

Go with your gut feeling. It’s possible he’s just having a development phase, but any good doctor will listen to a mother’s gut, and would rather see a well baby than miss an ill one.

chickhonhoneybabe · 20/11/2018 15:26

Trust your instinct if you don’t think things feel right and ring 111 for advice.

SummerInSun · 20/11/2018 15:27

Almost certainly, he is fine. BUT - you are worried, he is very, very little, and his is a classic time of year for everyone getting sick. So yes, go see the GP. At the very least, the GP can explain to you when you what sort of things should be triggers to come in.

Alternatively, start by calling 111. They will ask you questions that you haven’t known / thought to ask yourself.

Lightsong · 20/11/2018 15:28

I would take him

Staringcoat · 20/11/2018 15:30

Don't hesitate! Trust your gut! Generally speaking, ime, hcps don't mind doing preventative check ups on tiny babies!

Thewalker75 · 20/11/2018 15:32

Agree definitely take him if that's what your gut is telling you.

I've been the same with my 6 month old the last few days, worried sick and took him to the Dr and hes absolutely fine and I felt a bit daft but the Dr was lovely and said they would much rather see babies to check them and put parents minds at rest.

Hope he's ok Flowers

notfromstepford · 20/11/2018 15:33

If you're worried - take him.
My GPs said they'd rather see 100 children that are essentially OK rather than have 1 that should have come in sooner.
As far as children, especially very young babies, are concerned, it's never a waste of anyone's time and it is not for "no reason".
Trust your gut, take him, they'll more than likely tell you everything is fine and you'll go home happy knowing that.

Wolfiefan · 20/11/2018 15:34

Have you checked his temperature?
At that age I would always get anything that worries about you checked out.

Heartofglass21 · 20/11/2018 15:50

Trust your instinct. He's probably fine but at one month old, don't take any chances.

Serialweightwatcher · 20/11/2018 15:55

Of course take him if you're worried - hopefully nothing but will put your mind at rest

OlennasWimple · 20/11/2018 15:57

Are you still under midwife care?

53rdWay · 20/11/2018 15:57

Take him. They’d much rather see a baby that turned out to be fine than miss one who needed seeing.

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/11/2018 15:58

They'll probably refer you to children's a&e because it's a newborn. So prepare for a lot of sitting around.

Miscible · 20/11/2018 16:05

Have you spoken to your health visitor?

Merryoldgoat · 20/11/2018 16:05

Take him.

I once took my DS to the doctor because he kept making a ‘funny’ face. I explained I knew I sounded mad but it was unusual.

He had a throat infection and needed antibiotics. Totally random, my DH thought I was being a bit daft but I ‘knew’ something was amiss.

Fatbutt · 20/11/2018 16:29

I once took my DD to out of hours because she wouldn't eat a takeaway! (for the record, occasional treat that she absolutely loved, so to not eat it was not her at all)

She was kept in hospital for a few days with a severe chest infection!

No matter how silly you think it sounds, get checked!

blackteasplease · 20/11/2018 16:38

Take him. Definitely. He is a baby and if you are worried about him they will understnad even if it's nothing.

snarferson · 20/11/2018 16:39

My DSis is a doctor and says she would ALWAYS be happy to see a child under 5 if the parent was concerned.

PlonkyPlink · 20/11/2018 16:44

They'll probably refer you to children's a&e because it's a newborn. So prepare for a lot of sitting around

If you are worried take him. I’m a GP and am perfectly qualified to assess a newborn without automatically sending to A&E.

RemoteRamona · 20/11/2018 16:47

@PlonkyPlink I'm going to keep an eye on him until tomorrow as he seems okay, just a bit grumpy. I'll be calling them first thing in the morning though (they're closed this afternoon for some reason). It's so easy to feel like you're wasting their time.

OP posts:
Whatamuddleduck · 20/11/2018 16:54

Seriously if you are concerned that he isn’t right any medical professional would be happy to see him.
I called 111 when dd was the same age as she was weirdly sleepy. They sent an ambulance. Se was just tired. Ambulance crew were fine and said they are always happy to check a little one (I felt like an idiot but a relieved one!).

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 20/11/2018 16:55

Do it. With a 1 month old it's not worth the risk. Just get his temp taken, tummy felt etc
