Doing school drop off this morning and one of the mums told me that I looked exhausted. I realise it's not big in the great scheme of things but it's the school run! Most of us are exhausted/don't look our best sans make up before the caffeine kicks in. I think I just stared blankly at her and said 'Yes.' It just felt like I was being told how shit I looked to my face. Why do people do this?

Another mum said this to me last week. And I was actually exhausted, but her telling me didn't help. I think it was her way of being nice so didn't give it too much thought.

Yesterday I was in a shop and the assistant called me 'sir' (!) so I really must be looking like shit Grin

I hate when people say this and also I hate the people who come on here and say: “it’s just someone trying to be nice.” Yes, it’s always so nice when someone points out you look exhausted. How could anyone take offence?. ConfusedHmm

I had a friend who would say it to me every single time we met up, which was usually for a night out when I was all dressed up and would have much preferred a “You look nice tonight.”Sad

i did the school run on friday for the first time since having my baby and one of the mum’s told me i was looking tired. i was like well, duh, i had a baby 5 days ago! i also get people telling me i look pale a lot which irritates me.

It's such a shit thing to say. It's not constructive or anything. I was told it once and it caught me off guard as I was feeling great. I had to go along with it and pretend I was tired in case I made her feel awkward 😂

There was a mum who used to say this to me when my youngest was weeks old and I was constantly shattered, but when I made an effort to drag a brush through my hair and throw on clothes that weren't covered in sick she said 'Wow - you've really made an effort today, you must be even more knackered than normal!'. I couldn't win - she was so determined to comment on my appearance that it didn't matter what I did, there was always something negative that she felt compelled to impart. Fortunately, I didn't give a shit about her opinion, so it amused me rather than annoyed me, but it was still bloody rude!
