to ring up and ask what their offer is?

Am I able to ring up the estate agents and ask what the offer is they've received for a house?
I viewed a house yesterday and really interested, he said there's an offer on the table for it but they still have to sell their house first which is why people are still allowed to view it. AIBU to ring up and ask what their offer is or are they not allowed to say? Thanks!Grin

you can ask but you might not get a true answer, it could turn into some sort of bidding war which is really unpleasant, you don't know that they have received an offer

pzgirl · 20/11/2018 14:11

@HoleyCoMoley yeah true, didn't think of that! Might leave it then..

Well if it's still on the market, I would definitely put an offer in if you like the house. It might be lower than the one they've already received, it might not. They can only say no.

EdithBouvier · 20/11/2018 14:20

They won't tell you what the offer is. Its up to you to put in an offer and the vendors to reject or accept that. Then you can up your offer or explain you're in a better position than the current accepted offer if needed.

thanks for the replies!
Also another question, I'm a first time buyer so not sure with all the fees, but how much does it cost with all the fees, or mortgage advisor solicitors etc? I've got mortgage principal in place.

I don't think they will tell you the actual offer, but there's nothing stopping you from offering yourself. If you are in a position to move quickly, and if that is appealing to the vendor then they can negotiate with you.

pzgirl · 20/11/2018 14:46

I went and viewed it without my partner last time, and he's back on Thursday so going with him to view it then, and the estate agent told me last night that somebody else is viewing today so need to act fast.
Fingers crossed my partner likes it just as much as I do on Thursday and we can act fast!Grin

pzgirl When you go to do the second viewing with your partner make sure the vendor knows you are ready to go straight ahead and can proceed without selling a property, imo Estate Agents should put forward offers from people who can proceed straightaway to purchase.

Blobby10 · 20/11/2018 15:11

pzgirl you should be able to get a quote from a solicitor which will list all the costs of purchase and will include all the eleventy billion searches they 'have' to do even if they've done exactly the same for the house next door on the same day! To any solicitors on here, yes, I know its essential but its irritating Grin

Please don't be rushed into a decision by the EA - every single house that I have viewed (and there have been loads over the years!), as soon as I displayed a flicker of interest, there was 'someone else really interested so you need to act quickly'.
