Do antidepressants make us numb?

I've been on sertreline (zoloft) for a couple of years now. Starting off on 25mg and now up to the max of 200mg. I'm completely emotionally numb. I acknowledge and accept what antidepressants do and why etc.

But have any of you found coming off them before your doctor says you're 'ready' has helped?

My Dr says to expect to be on them for the rest of my life...

I have tried other types of anti depressants and they all leave me feeling empty.

What are your experiences?

My emotions were way too extreme without them. I was either in the depths of despair and suicidal, this was my most common emotion! Or I'd get ridiculously hyper and do stupid things. I had a terrible temper. I feel anti-depressants have numbed me somewhat but to a "normal" level. I never feel suicidal now and my actions are much more measured. So, to answer your question, yes I think they do but some of us need that!

Fluoxetine made me numb. Switched to Citalopram. Now I just feel normal xx

On the flip side I've cried 3 times in the last 24 hours about not very much at all....there must be some sort of happy medium!

The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) do flatten affect as one of their side effects so you don't get the crushing lows but neither do you get the highs either, it's meant to give you a medium feel to life. I haven't been on them myself but would always recommend you speak to your prescribing professional before coming off them. Flowers
