To think I can feel my gallbladder get 'stuck' under my ribs?

GP thinks I am insane. But I can push it out from under my ribcage I am sure. Had an ultrasound and forgot to ask the sonographer if it was a possibility, but I'm now kicking myself because the GP was so sure I am mad.
Ultrasound showed gallbladder is inflamed and I have multiple stones.
Anybody know if that can even be a thing? Google has let me down.

No it cant be. You have to 'lift' your liver to get to your gall bladder.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 19/11/2018 22:07

Really? It can rise above it/on top of it?

Do you suffer from health anxiety?

Ginpasta · 19/11/2018 22:09

Your gallbladder doesn't sit under your rib cage, it's under your liver so I would think it's impossible

CloserIAm2Fine · 19/11/2018 22:14

I’m sure if your gallbladder had somehow moved position and got stuck under your ribs the sonographer would’ve mentioned it without being asked!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 19/11/2018 22:16

Doesn't your diaphragm keep your liver and kidneys, stomach and intestines and other organs in your lower torso and your lungs and heart in the upper chest cavity? I wouldn't think you could feel your gallbladder poking out from your ribcage...but everyone is different.

SpoonBlender · 19/11/2018 22:20

You're certainly feeling something, but it won't be your gall bladder. Just look at an anatomy diagram, no chance. It's about as far from your ribs as anything abdominal can be.

It may well be related though - an inflamed bit of something due to the gall bladder problem perhaps.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 19/11/2018 22:39

Thanks all. No, not at all health anxious, at least no more than most I guess.

I stand corrected about it being my gallbladder. All very odd, excruciating pain and can feel something under my right rib, which then visibly moves and pain vanishes.

You're right Spoon, gallbladder/stone related perhaps, but unlikely it's my actual gallbladder

When my gallbladder is kicking off I can feel something pressing against my lower ribs on the right hand side. I'm assuming it's my liver. It feels uncomfortable and awkward until it settles down.

SynchroSwimmer · 19/11/2018 23:15

There is a good Facebook support group online for Gall Bladder issues...you might find it helpful?

agnurse · 19/11/2018 23:40

While your gallbladder doesn't sit under your rib directly what you're describing is very consistent with gallbladder pain. I had mine removed 11 years ago and felt the same thing.

Your body actually doesn't have a felt "image" for where your internal organs are actually located. People often feel pain in the area where the organ was located during fetal development, because the nerve endings are still there. This is why it's common to get back, jaw, or arm pain with a heart attack, and why you can also get shoulder pain with a gallbladder issue. I sometimes had pain on the LEFT side but it was all due to my gallbladder.

MissMarplesKnitting · 19/11/2018 23:42

Yeah, mines coming out soon and I constantly can feel it under my right side. It's clearly just swollen and pushing on the soft tissue round it.

RadioDorothy · 19/11/2018 23:44

Thag sounds like gallstone pain to me - I had mine out last year. I've just posted about bizarre rib pain though, feel like someone is opening an umbrella under my ribcage.

TheDarkPassenger · 19/11/2018 23:49

Radiodorothy I had that same pain and it was an infected diaphragm from a rib broken about s month or two before hand. Didn’t even know you could get diaphragm infections! Blush

LondonLassInTheCountry · 19/11/2018 23:53

Every body is different.

Organs and other bits are not necessarily where they "suppose" to be in the body

RadioDorothy · 19/11/2018 23:57

TheDarkPassenger ooh ma gawd. I haven't broken anything recently!

StephenQueenBooks · 19/11/2018 23:57

organs and other bits are not necessarily where they are supposed to be

Organs are generally in the right place and can't wander around the body. I'm sure the sonographer would have mentioned an organ mix up. Bloody hell, you hear some things here.

Op, it may be gallstone pain but your gallbladder can't move to your ribs but that pain could be associated with the issue, it's worth asking your GP, are you going back for further consultation now gallstones have been found?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/11/2018 23:59

I have a gallstone and the pain at times is like being kicked in the ribs.

It spreads to the side where your bra would normally sit. It's bloody awful pain.

newyorkartist · 20/11/2018 00:00

Sounds like you're feeling a hiatus hernia to me.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 20/11/2018 00:04

"""Organs are generally in the right place and can't wander around the body. I'm sure the sonographer would have mentioned an organ mix up. Bloody hell, you hear some things here"""

Im not talking about wandering around your body.

My large intestine is where my small intestine should be, and vice versa, my appendix is on the other side and my bowel is also in a different place

So actually.... Your wrong!

StephenQueenBooks · 20/11/2018 00:11

Which is why I said "generally", issues with the bowel like that are most common, but a liver and gallbladder swapping etc is very very rare. Almost unheard of and certainly noticed, especially with a scan.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 20/11/2018 00:15

I didnt say they had swapped over.

But when i had a scan they had to push by bowel and i could "feel" a feeling like it was touching my ribs

There is something called referred pain. Which is could be...

LEMtheoriginal · 20/11/2018 00:19

Insides most definitely do not fit with the pictures. I am a vet nurse and assisted in lots of surgery and that was the thing that surprised me the most about insidss. They arent all that tidy! They are held in place by ligaments. Ommentum and other bits and pieces. However they are roughly where one expects them to be.

So actually you are both right.

Op you are most likely experiencing referred pain. Gallstones are notorious for it. I could have pain under my right rib or pain between my shoulder blades. Bastard things - i speak from experience.

RamblinRosie · 20/11/2018 02:32

Gallstones are shit, I had hurt everywhere gutwise, and had explosive vomiting.

I must admit , I had a hissey fit with my specialist, he suggested waiting, I went postal ( he had brought an entire student group to investigate my bits, without any permission).

A bit of shouting can work (DO YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO WORK LIKE THIS?)

If you have gallstones, you need them out, they’re agony beyond most peoples understanding.

All the best to you.
