I'm a size 14 to 16 and 5ft 7. I generally think I look ok. Recently went to a function at which there was a photographer and from the front I'm thinking it's all ok but he caught some photos of me talking to other people and jesus wept, there are TWO rolls of back fat showing through my dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lovely slinky dress that looks hot from the front and clearly defined rolls of back fat showing through my dress at the back.

I am filled with self-disgust, which I know is wrong and awful and I'm always banging on about accepting who we are but OMG, so fucking depressing.

I go to the gym, are there exercises I can do, or do I have to cut down food? Not sure I can make peace with the back fat.

I'm 5 ft 8 and do circuits/bootcamp/fat burn classes daily, along with weights and pump

I’m lucky if I get 4 hours a night but I don’t have back fat!

Well electricMonkey aren’t you bloody brilliant! DFOD

Op our gaps weights for you back but also your core to help with posture maybe help? But to be honest it’s probably not as bad as you think, we’re often the most critical of ourselves, unless you’re electricMonkey that is 😉

redsummershoes · 19/11/2018 18:58

no need to be disgusted.
photos have a tendency to not show us at out best without clever lightening.

you are most probably overweight at your clothes size and height, but the great thing is: you can do something about it!
and yes, it mainly comes down to cutting calories. lots of great advice already.

Albadross · 19/11/2018 19:01

Where are the rolls OP? Under the bra or where the bra cuts into the part under your arms?

Fluffyears · 19/11/2018 19:23

At 5’9” when I was underweight I was a size 12 so I think 8-10 is too small for some people. I have quite wide shoulders and hips x

Thanks all. It is definitely an age thing as I didn’t have back fat in the past and my weight has been fairly constant for the last 15 years.

Albadross the back fat is below my bra strap but above my waist. I have definitely noticed weight moving off my hips and up to my middle. I’ve developed a tummy I never had before either!

“You don't need better underwear. You need to lose a significant amount of weight. I'm your height and a size 8/10 and that's a healthy weight”

As someone who’s struggled with eating disorders for more than 20 years I’d like to think you’d have a bit more awareness how damaging a comment like this can be to someone over the internet whom you have never seen so have no idea if she does need to lose a significant amount of weight or not.

I may have come across rude but you were being sanctimonious and smug.

Oh come on! It's hardly abnormal/end of the world/totally hideous. Just love and accept yourself more. We are far too fixated on minor details which really don't matter. Perfectly normal and not unattractive at all.

This /\

OP, I think perhaps trying to maintain a calorie deficit while working on back, chest and shoulders will help with that stubborn area. BUT, as another PP said, the lighting and angles in certain photos can either make or break people!

I'm probably bigger, heavier and older than all of you but for some strange reason I don't have back fat. I have no idea why this Is, it's just not where I carry my weight.

AdrasteiaAthena · 23/11/2018 23:22

No one ever got an eating disorder because someone on the internet said they need to lose weight to get rid of their back fat. Which they clearly do

Erm, actually that's where alot of people eating disorders stem from, either from carelessly worded online comments or in real life.

OP, as pp have said upper body work outs and a run through of your diet may help but also it is worth double checking your bra is fitted correctly - it makes all the difference! 😁

halfwitpicker · 23/11/2018 23:31

Fuck me this is depressing. Everyone arguing.

OP, if you're not happy with your appearance, change it.

Back fat is depressing. I had serious back fat going so lost weight. Feel better now.

QuickGetTheEggplants · 23/11/2018 23:31

I seem to store all my fat I my back. I hate to say it, but I'm a size 8-10 with very visible muscle definition in my back due to advanced pole dancing, but I still have back rolls!

The trick for me is good posture. I notice if I film myself pole dancing. Walk normally away from the camera: back rolls. "Pull up" into dancers' posture: smooth back.

XiCi · 24/11/2018 00:17

Too many carbs. As soon as I started eating low carb the back fat disappeared, and very very quickly

Junkmail · 24/11/2018 00:38

I have recently lost weight from your size OP (and I’m the same height) to a size 8-10 and I still have a little back fat (I also still have more weight to lose though)—I genuinely think that a lot of the way fat is deposited is down to a few factors: age, genetics and the kind of food you eat. I eat low carb and it’s improved things immensely. I mean, if youre really unhappy with the way you look then you can start a healthier eating plan. Or you accept your weight (a size 14-16 isn’t enormous) and live your life. It’s up to you but I do know you can’t spot reduce fat and if you are serious about losing the back fat then all you can do is start a general health kick (diet to lose weight, exercise to tone up).
