Sorry - I know this is not really AIBU but I don't really feel like this fits in Infertility and not sure where else to put it!

I am starting my medications for our first (and hopefully only!) IVF cycle today.

I am fully aware of the possibility that it may not work first time, and have seen lots of stories from people where it has worked second, third, fourth time... or god forbid not at all.

I am trying to have a PMA in relation to my cycle and am thinking THIS IS GOING TO WORK FOR ME!

But it would really help to hear from people who it HAS worked first time for! Can you please share your stories with me to help me remain positive?

I'm particularly interested in people who have used donor eggs as that's our situation.

Thanks in advance!

After 3 years of infertility we had our first round of IVF and it worked! We had 11 eggs, 8 fertilised and two made it to 5 days blasts. I am the least woo person in the world but I'll never forget standing on the pavement outside the hospital with my Mum after the egg transfer and saying 'I know this is totally bonkers but I feel so sure its worked - I just feel like my body is so ready.' I then went on to work a nearly 80 hour week with one of the busiest on call shifts of my life (I'm a medic) so definitely no relaxing happening at all! I did wonder if I might regret not taking the first week off as some people do if it didn't work but deep down I knew that it wouldn't make any difference.

I'm now pregnant again - this time naturally - using the period of super fertility you have shortly after a pregnancy, gave up breastfeeding over quite a short period of time at 10 months and was pregnant within a month. If you'd said I would be in this position a couple of years ago I would never have believed you.

Good luck! It's a rollercoaster but worth it x

Not IVF but IUI, worked first time, zero drugs and odds of 10-12%. My 11 month old DD is asleep next door - miracles can happen. Best of luck xx

ellesbellesxxx · 19/11/2018 19:12

Keeping everything 🤞 for you.
We had 8 eggs retrieved first round, 6 fertilised.. four of them were still going on day 5 but we’re behind (only early blasts) so they put 2 in.. they both made it and are 18 months now

TheHauntedFishtank · 19/11/2018 19:13

Worked first time for us. I had acupuncture and found it very helpful in terms of relaxation. We had made our peace with not having a child before starting the ivf so that took a lot of pressure off. Good luck!

16 years ago, IVF/ICSI from frozen sperm following cancer treatment. The little buggers performed pretty well considering they'd been in the fridge for a decade. First time success x2.

Dogdogcat · 19/11/2018 19:42

We used donor eggs. Three embryos from six eggs and my second round of IVF worked. My six month old DS is currently asleep upstairs.

Talkingfrog · 19/11/2018 20:17

I had successful treatment first time.
We started with iui to see how I responded. The answer was too well as I had too many follicles so we opted to convert to ivf.
I had 2 5 day blastocysts put back. Both implanted but I lost one at 6 weeks. The other is 7.5 and sat next to me.
We have tried for a sibling without success. (2 cycles and a separate embryo transfer). Age may have been a factor as I was between 40 and 42 for the ones that failed.
I know now we were very lucky it worked first time.
Sending good wishes fir a positive outcome. Happy to answer any questions if you have any. It is only during the later cycles I realised how niave I was about it all as I just assumed it would work in our first go.

PeachMelba78 · 19/11/2018 20:21

Worked first time with a 5 day frozen embryo. I am a surrogate, and I didn’t have any hormone injections other than 1 mild one after the transfer. Now 7 months pregnant and the dads can’t wait!

Talkingfrog · 19/11/2018 20:35

Peach melba - that is a lovely thing for you to do Flowers

PeachMelba78 · 19/11/2018 20:58

I forgot to say I had a massage a couple of days before and a facial the day before the treatment to chill out as I was super stressed!
The embryo was a very high quality which I’m sure helped, but I hated the doctor so I was so happy that I didn’t need to see him again!! 😂

PeachMelba78 · 19/11/2018 21:01

@Talkingfrog thanks! I talked about it before here, and on my blog as I got loads of questions about it -

A friend of mine has just given birth to her 2nd ivf baby from icsi. She has 2 beautiful healthy girls. Good luck op

MondayImInLove · 19/11/2018 21:06

First IVF (ICSI), failed but we ended up wirh 11 embryos!! 6m later I was pregnant with boy/girl twins Smile

2018ismyyear2018 · 19/11/2018 21:08

Successful first time with ICSI for male factor infertility. I ate very healthily, exercised, did acupuncture, took vitamins. I found the injections absolutely fine, no real symptoms but the actual process after egg retrieval was a little stressful. I had one fertilised embryo out of a possible 6 (the other 5 were donated for egg sharing) and they advised a 2 day transfer because I only had one. Anyway she's asleep upstairs and is the best thing ever!

My advice would be after egg transfer take it really easy. I didn't, Iwent back to work too early and then got OHSS which was a bit of a nightmare but I would do it all again without question.

Good luck OP - I really hope it works for you.

jemimafuddleduck · 19/11/2018 21:42

Thank you so much for all of your positive stories. I'm so glad it worked out well for you all ❤️ sometimes you only see the stories which have taken lots of cycles, and it's so reassuring to see so many of you it worked first time for x

1st round success here too! Low AMH so high dose Menopur. 3 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilised, 1 grew and is now asleep upstairs!

On paper the results were terrible, but for us it really did take one!

Best of luck OP.

Talkingfrog · 19/11/2018 22:21

I had acupuncture in one of my failed cycles. Don't know if it made a difference, but that was the only cycle that face us one to freeze. I chose a zita West trained acupuncturist do I knew she was experienced in acupuncture for fertility.

Grenoble124 · 19/11/2018 22:52

Did doner egg ivf in Sept 2015 abroad. Worked first time, textbook pregnancy and two blasts in the freezer. He is the best thing that ever happened to me. x

2018ismyyear2018 · 20/11/2018 19:17

Just reread my post and it read as if I had 6 eggs and donated 5. Just for clarity I had 11, donated 5 and of my remaining 6 only one fertilised!

KC225 · 20/11/2018 21:37

Was lied to and ripped off by a private London clinic - them recommending and performing treatments that had virtually zero chance of sucess. We ended up reporting them to HEFA. Lost all confidence in what to believe and what I was told. We decided to go abroad for a lovely weekend away and check out a clinic recommended by a woman I met online

After a few months talking back and forth with the clinic we decided to go ahead. Got 10 embryos, had three put in (rules have changed now). Twins on first go, that was over 11 years ago.

Good luck OP.

Verbena87 · 20/11/2018 22:00

We did ivf with PGD to avoid passing on a genetic condition so we’re both fertile but because of the complex process were given about a 30% chance of pregnancy.

Process requires frozen embryo transfer, and because of my age (youngish) they did single embryo transfer. It worked first time, we’ve 3 embryos not carrying our dodgy gene in the freezer, and baby is now just over 1 and (fucking finally Wink) asleep.

No acupuncture, but we did stop drinking alcohol and cut down caffeine for 3 months before starting treatment and took vitamin d and folic acid (think DH had zinc as well). I also stopped running as I had to gain weight to qualify for funding and couldn’t manage it while I was still training; slightly suspect increasing my body fat percentage a bit may have helped.

Good luck.

Breadfoam · 21/11/2018 00:05

We had three rounds...
two ivf with icsi
One donor embryo round

I was 32 at the time so not that old and we had male factor infertility.

All failed.

Then I got pregnant naturally.

jemimafuddleduck · 21/11/2018 15:57

Thanks all!

I think I have decided to do acupuncture- it can't harm I guess?!

OP posts:
ellesbellesxxx · 28/11/2018 20:30

I had acupuncture... if nothing else I found the session relaxing and like a mini therapy session!

Dogdogcat · 29/11/2018 18:06

We also did this. I think it was helpful because they determined that the best time for my transfer was slightly different from what was expected from my cycle. I had two transfers and got pregnant with both. I lost the first one, but the second resulted in the sweet thing sitting on me right now. Might be worth talking to your doc about it. It was a bit pricey though. www.igenomix.co.uk/era-patient?hsCtaTracking=26c1a055-afe6-425c-93ff-691aa3c33d1e%7Ccd01b746-cdf5-4cde-9177-cbb17b623468
