To look for new jobs ?

Long story short
I have been seconded over to a new post for six months with a view that if I liked it and succeeded I would be offered it permanently . Anyway the six months is over in a few days and I have heard nothing from my senior management despite asking .
I am now starting to look for new full time posts as I have to earn a full time wage and can't afford to go back to my other part time role.
AIBU to be looking and applying when I don't know what they will do and will probably offer it me since I'm doing a great job and know the role so well?
I have a habit of acting in haste but I feel like they should have told me by now!

well, how have you asked?
have you escalated the lack of clarity on what's happening and warned them you need to seek alternative options (putting it politely/stating your preference to continue in the role)?

tbh if it's ending in a few days i'd have expected any member of staff that i manage to have a job offer lined up in the next couple of weeks if they didn't know if their current role would be continued.

i.e. the situation you find yourself in now is far far too late for most people to be able to accommodate.

personally i'd have been escalating this at the 5 month point and making it clear that i needed to look at month 6 options then (e.g. "can you confirm you'd be a suitable reference point for external recruitment queries" to Mr or Ms Unresponsive Boss as a way of pointedly reminding them you're in limbo).

you are NBU to be looking - you've left it late IMHO

Definitely look around. They're rude as fuck to not give you an indication with only a few days to go!

They probably just think the temporary job will morph into the permanent job without anything happening to confirm it. That's what often happens when someone starts a job with a "probationary" period. So long as they're happy with the person's performance, it just carries on.

I asked after 4.5 months . My manager asked them and they said they would get back to her . I then emailed them with 7weeks left and the senior manager said she would let us know. Rang again yesterday and they said HR are dragging their feet. I've applied for another job so think I'll just keep applying .

Just carry on, and if the 6m overruns, so be it. They would have to give you contractual notice if they wanted you to leave. Make job applications if you want, but there's probably nothing to worry about.
