Christmas Decorations already up

I keep seeing people with their outside of their houses already covered in Christmas lights and decorations and some people already have a Christmas tree up.

AIBU to think that this is way too early and taking the magic out of Christmas (exceptions only given for people with someone in their family that won't live long enough to see Christmas this year)?

It might be no one elses business but probably 8 out of 10 people are judging you and thinking you're a bloody loon if you put them up even remotely before December 1st.

Christmas starts on Christmas Day FFS. Christmas does not end on December 26th.

LagunaBubbles · 18/11/2018 12:52

And people judging me and thinking I'm a "bloody loon" affects me in absolutely zero way whatsoever, I'm happy, my family are happy and if other people want to waste mental energy judging me because of that judge on!

m0therofdragons · 18/11/2018 13:02

I know 2 families. One just love Christmas and the other have a Dad with terminal cancer who may not make 25 December. Their tree went up on 6 November. Would you judge them? I never understand why others stress about this stuff.

Gingerivy · 18/11/2018 13:15

We always put our Christmas decorations up early. I don't care one bit if someone else doesn't like it. Xmas Grin

We enjoy it and absolutely don't get tired of it.

I'm sitting here right now, sipping tea, browing MN with the Christmas tree up across the room (with the lights on) and VH1 on television with "Christmas with Noddy Holder" playing Christmas music videos. The dcs will be putting clingy snow flakes on the windows for decoration later today.

Anyone that has a huge problem with it simply doesn't need to enter my home in November or December.

TheBigBangRocks · 18/11/2018 13:51

Way too early, Christmas is one day not two months.

It's not as bad as the elf, the made up character being used as discipline etc.

I love Christmas but the few days of it.

giveitfive · 18/11/2018 14:10

I give zero Fs about people who think I am a loon

Anyone who judges me is welcome to do so if they like.

They aren't living my life and have no impact on it with judgey attitudes.

My Christmas is perfect. I commit to charity endeavours, decorate the shit out of stuff, have a bit of warm hearted rivalry with my lovely neighbours about the over the topness of our lights and spend quality time with my family.

Over the years I've reciously organised Christmas parties for 100s and 100s of sick and terminally ill kids in November each year because that's when big venues have freebie slots.... my local church did Christmas pudding night a few weeks ago, we started collecting our food bank hampers at work already, and all the school fetes and markets have started ... so I've got my Santa hat dusted off and I'm READY for the season....

Frankly I work too hard to not squeeze every bit of glitter I can out of the festive season and people who judge me for it can shove their judgement where the baubles don't sparkle....

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 18/11/2018 14:24

I don't care how early you put your decs up. I love to see houses looking festive even though we don't put ours up until just before the school breaks up. But I find it so depressing when people take them down so early.

For us Christmas starts on Christmas Eve and lasts until New Year.

HolyMountain · 18/11/2018 14:29

I’m a sparkly lights twat who has twinkly lights up all year, love ‘em! I only need to put up the tree and hang the poncey honeycomb decs and I’m good to go but not yetGrin, middle of December for us.

Each to their own and all that.

Pinkprincess1978 · 18/11/2018 14:37

I really don't see why it bothers anyone at all? Once a few years ago we put them up around now. They will be up in two weekend time and may even go up next weekend.... what I do affects no one but us!

randomchap · 18/11/2018 14:49

There's 12 days of Christmas, not one of those days is in November...

MemoryOfSleep · 18/11/2018 14:58

Mine go up in December but I love it when other houses put theirs up early. It adds to the anticipation, a feeling of 'Oooh, Christmas is coming!'

As kids, my DF hated putting the decs up early, so we used to have a rule that we could only put them up when we could count 100 bedecked houses on the way home from the weekly shop. I think YABU, OP.

BishBoshBashBop · 18/11/2018 15:04

I never understand why this bothers people so much. Everyone's situation is different and everyone chooses to celebrate differently.

I think it depend what it involves.

The people accross the road from my SIL and BIL have flashing lights outside etc which reflects into their house. They have had them up since the clocks went back.

By all means do what you loke but itis infair when it impacts on others.

Atetoomanyjaffacakes · 18/11/2018 15:04

It doesn't bother me when others put their decorations up, but for me it really dilutes Christmas. I don't want my DC getting really excited and then realising it's not for another 6 weeks.
