Skids

Does anyone else have to hand wash pants before they go into the washing machine because skids are soooo bad???

My 11 year old does such bad skids I do this for at least 3 pairs of boxers a day.

He does have ASD so I don’t ever say anything or blame him as he says he doesn’t realise he’s done it until it’s too late!

Just wondered if I was the only one with the skids problem 😂

He was under Occupational Health team and they were really helpful because he had a lot of other things going on as well (weighted back pack to stop him running off, wedged seat pillow to help him sit still etc), this was a while ago when he was 5 of me 6. I remember the whole social stories were effective about the routine of going.

I’m not sure there’s an answer either! I was just thinking this morning (after stripping his bed for the second time this weekend) what if he’s still like this when he’s 16 or 17 when he should be meeting girls and hopefully having fun with socialising - but then quickly told myself that by this time he would have a motivation to frequently visit the toilet ‘when it may be time’ whereas at the moment his main socialising is in his bedroom on his head set playing Xbox with all his friends so may be there’s no incentive at the moment- we can live in hope!

How old is your son whirly? Do you ever worry that he’ll still be doing it as a teenager?

Seance - yes I also buy cheap underwear- but he likes boxers so just bought a load o lee cooper boxers from sports direct which were very reasonable. Yes I often throw underwear out as well as I just can’t face hand washing another pair!

Hope your son grows out of it

And vice Versa. My Ds is a bit more 'I thought it was just a fart' and he will clean himself up quite well at home but when we are out he just gets on with it and it's the smell that gives it away. I don't think he notices unless he actually sees it. His big brother has spd and asd both diagnoses onlder than the ds in question so might also be affecting things.

I imagine that as your ds gets older and other things become more important to him, how he smells will be enough of a prompt to get more active in the bathroom etc. I'm having the fight just to get my asd boy (just 10) to wash/brush teeth/deodorant.... he's mature physically but thinks it's a joke that he smells Sad

Sometimes if I havea lot I do a 15 min machine wash of just pants, then a full load of mixed items. What about getting a nappy bin to keep in the smells until the weekly wash?

Dani without wishing to depress you, mine is 14 on his next birthday and yes I'm starting to really worry about what the future holds for him.

Oh my ds is same age and the same! After years of back and forward to consultants and being told constipation overflow we were told to start dairy free, then gluten free etc to see if that helped. Since he was out of nappies he’s never had an urge to go, so had to sit on the toilet each night for x amount of time.

Jury is still out on that one but he’s definitely way better than he was a year ago. I’m hugely worrying about when he’s older.

If his pants are that bad I bin them, I also buy cheap pairs. If they get washed I usually save a few pairs in a lidded nappy bin then put them on rinse wash putting a wash on (and add anti bacterial stuff).

I also wash nappies for younger dc so once every so often I run the machine on empty at 90c.

He's old enough to hand wash his own dirty boxers.
Try it....it might even help him to manage his toilet issues better in the long run.
