of your lace front underwear?!

I was wearing pull in bloody shape wear when I was raped. Bit fleshy coloured elasticated ugly knickers. Which to even see, my clothes had to be removed.

What the hell is wrong with the world where we're going to say you'll get raped for wearing certain underwear when you never even know what someone has on under their clothes.

I can't get over this. It's an absolute disgrace.

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 17/11/2018 15:27

I was raped wearing fleece pj's.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 17/11/2018 15:39

There was an exhibition a few years ago of clothes.

The person interviewed lots of people who had been raped and one of the things she asked them was what they had been wearing or did they still have the clothes they been wearing. And then used the outfits or sourced the same thing that the person described to use in the exhibition to highlight this exact point.

The link below isn't the one I remember but it's basically the same thing, it's very interesting.

bringincrazyback · 17/11/2018 15:40

Of course they will rape regardless and it's beyond the pale that women are still being blamed in this way.

RedneckStumpy · 17/11/2018 15:43

90% of people obay the law and have good moral standards.

The 10% don’t and therefore will never obay the law. So yes evil is evil

citiesofbismuth · 17/11/2018 16:15

It's easier to blame women than to face up to the fact that men are monsters.

BathFullOfEels · 17/11/2018 16:17

Evil men will rape regardless. Women can’t rape anyone.

skybluee · 17/11/2018 16:26

Women can’t rape anyone????

I disagree with that, and I think it does a disservice to anyone who has been raped by a woman, it diminishes their suffering and basically trivialises it and says it can't be as important, it can't be as damaging. Yet if you read online, there are many reports of people being raped by women and feeling utterly traumatised and bereft - and feeling services do not support them.

Yes, of course, it's a massively smaller amount than the people who are raped by men, but of course it happens. And to not use the terminology rape, to dance around it and give it different names, I feel it completely trivialises what those rape victims went through.

Woman to woman rape and sexual assault and its impact

thoughtcatalog.com/lorenzo-jensen-iii/2014/08/19-men-share-stories-of-being-raped-by-a-woman-nsfw/

Men who were raped by a woman and the impact it had on them.

Imagine if we went around saying that the people who were raped by men weren't raped? I find it abhorrent that someone on this site could state that women can't rape. One of my closest friends was raped by a woman, and her life was destroyed. Not only did she have difficulty seeking help, she faced prejudice wherever she went. Fortunately Women's Aid sat down with her and told her that her assault was no less serious than someone who had been raped by a man, and she is working to overcome the utter shame she feels, not helped by attitudes such as this. They told her she was brave to speak out. Do some googling on the subject, read peoples' experiences, and see how it affects them. Read about the shame, the traumatisation and the helplessness.

And don't diminish, disregard or invalidate their rape.

skybluee · 17/11/2018 16:30

This BBC article is actually very good

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2018 16:31

Yanbu op

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2018 16:31

And in fact let's ban lacy thongs and see if the numbers of rapes goes down. I strongly suspect it won't.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2018 16:32

They'll just have to find another aspect of the woman's appearance or behaviour to pin it on

Andro · 17/11/2018 16:34

Rape is a crime of power with sex as the weapon, you can reduce your risk in some situations, but not all. Rapists will still rape.

BathFullOfEels · 17/11/2018 16:37

skyblue I didn’t say women can’t sexually assault people. Women can’t rape as rape is one person penetrating another with their penis without consent.

mumsy27 · 17/11/2018 16:48

BathFullOfEels
So it is not a rape if the clothes get ripped, sperm everywhere, fingering but no penetration.
Hmm

BoneyBackJefferson · 17/11/2018 16:49

BathFullOfEels

Unfortunately you have to put in the UK or someone will point out that women rape.

BathFullOfEels · 17/11/2018 16:50

mumsy no, that’s not rape. It’s sexual assault.

mumsy27 · 17/11/2018 16:54

The term may differ..how the victim may feel is the same

BathFullOfEels · 17/11/2018 17:01

Absolutely. I think there are many instances of sexual assault which can be as, or even more, damaging both physically and mentally than rape. But that doesn’t change the fact that in the UK women can’t be charged with rape.

Nightgremlin · 17/11/2018 17:05

BathFullOfEels is right

Definition of the term rape in English law is penetration of another person with a penis without consent.
Penetration by foreign objects, other body parts, or forcing penetration of another is considered sexual assault.

So legally, no a woman can't rape anyone because she doesn't have a penis.

I don't think it's right personally, I think rape should be penetration without consent, using anything.

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2018 17:11

Evil men will rape anyway. But other evil men will always find a way of excusing them.

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2018 17:14

“I don't think it's right personally, I think rape should be penetration without consent, using anything.”

We need to have a word for the waeponizing of a penis. If you think sexual assault is too broad a term to encompass penetration with anything else then we can come up with another form of words. But rape is a unique crime and needs it’s own word.

Lizzie48 · 17/11/2018 17:14

This is typical, why bring up the 'women are just as bad' line? Obviously women are guilty of sexual assault sometimes (why worry about the label)? The point here is the victim was apparently guilty because of the underwear she was wearing! A woman is allowed to wear whatever underwear she wants to without it being assumed that she's consenting to sex. Confused

BoeandBall · 17/11/2018 17:16

Yes in the eyes of the law women cannot rape. I'm doing my dissertation on the subject this year

Gingerrogered · 17/11/2018 17:23

I read the report on the case. She is 17, a baby and a virgin. He was seen having sex with her with his hands around her neck. His story doesn't add up. He admits saying 'No, we had sex ' when she told him he'd raped her. But he also claims they didn't have intercourse because he couldn't get erect.

How the fuck the jury didn't convict is beyond me.
