To think this fireplace would go in my lounge?

Would this fireplace go in this room? Around existing gas fire. It's £30 on FB, I've just moved and am skint! Also what wallpaper would people recommend to go with it?

I don't think IABU however I don't have the best 'eye' for design 😂

It's not the best fit imo.

Holdingonbarely · 16/11/2018 19:48

It’s lovely, but what’s your house like? Is it Victorian/Edwardian? If it’s not then it could look a little out of place
And you’ll have to work your room round the fireplace. But it is lovely

Shaboohshoobah1 · 16/11/2018 19:49

I would only get it if your house is Edwardian/Victorian it it’ll look a little odd...

toddlepod · 16/11/2018 19:51

We did something similar and bought a lovely cast iron surround to make a feature in what was a featureless sitting room.

I think the surround is beautiful. Check the aperture is big enough for your actual fire and, if yes, go for it. If it's the focus of the room, you can paint and decorate to co-ordinate everything.

MrsStrowman · 16/11/2018 19:53

I like the surround but your room is more modern/plain it would look better with an open fire and in a period property

peachgreen · 16/11/2018 19:55

It might overwhelm it a bit - fireplaces like that really need a high ceiling. But tbh for £30 I'd be tempted to try it anyway and sell it on if it doesn't work! It's beautiful.

onwardsand · 16/11/2018 20:03

It's definitely not an Edwardian/Victorian house, just a bog standard 3 bed semi...
The fire would just fit inside the opening

Any suggestions of something that will look good?
I need a fire surround!

I have the same gas fire. (Ive missed the point of the thread)

peachgreen · 16/11/2018 20:15

I think you probably want one of the more plain wood style ones to be honest. If you went simple on the outside you could maybe get away with a fancier inlay.

I really like the second one.

peachgreen · 16/11/2018 20:16

I'd still give yours a try though to be honest! It's so lovely. Just keep the rest of the room really simple and go for plain block Edwardian colours.

onwardsand · 16/11/2018 20:18

Yes those wooden ones are nice and probably suit the house better.
I'd need to find a cheap one though and they're very expensive 😞

I quite like it, but perhaps the blue tiles wouldn't in my opinion go well with the rest of your room.
What about try to repaint them white?

peachgreen · 16/11/2018 20:55

@onwardsand Keep an eye on Gumtree and FB - people do sell them, although not as often as the metal ones, I agree.
