Just collect the bloody item!!

I ordered a chair from an online company and cancelled the order in the ‘cancellation policy’ window and they promptly refunded me. They then went on to deliver the item. I contacted them to notify them of the error and they said theyd be in touch to arrange collection. A week passed and they didn’t get in touch so I contacted them again (by phone and email). Same thing happened. I repeated the attempt. Nothing. 5 weeks have passed and nothing. Wwyd? I actually don’t have a delivery address and the item is from Italy so I’m not sending it at my own expense. What would you do in this situation?

Morally correct or otherwise, I'd just keep it. I'd made the effort to return and they didn't accept

Forgotmycoat · 16/11/2018 18:57

Keep it op. They don't need it back.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/11/2018 18:57

I think you have taken all reasonable steps to return the item. If they can’t be bothered to arrange pick up, that is their responsibility, not yours.

Jeffacake · 16/11/2018 18:58

Keep it! I had a similar issue with some children’s play equipment from Tesco direct. Order cancelled and refunded but they still delivered it. I kept it!

UpstartCrow · 16/11/2018 19:01

After a certain time you can keep it but I'm not sure how long you have to wait after you've told them to collect it. Its about 30 days.

Poodles1980 · 16/11/2018 19:04

Keep it. My mum has a lovely bed and mattress from a big department store, they never collected it after an error with the order,, she tried for months to get it collected and eventually kept it. It was around 1.5k worth of furniture Grin

Thanks everyone. That’s what I was thinking Grin

If they only deliver when they have a full container they might be waiting until they have a full one before coming over to deliver and therefore collect. Many companies do this. Could you ask them?

I am assuming that as you cancelled you do not want the item so would be happy to let it go back.

charlestonchaplin · 16/11/2018 20:23

Actually, UpstartCrow, I don't think that's true. The item is still owned by the company and OP has a duty to look after it and make reasonable attempts to return it or make it available for pickup. There isn't a set period. There is still time for the company to ask for their sofa back so I'd advise OP to take good care of it in the meantime.

I had a toy company deliver two of the sets of toys I had ordered. I called to tell them (ages holding etc) for them to tell me I needed to take one to the post office. Said no bloody way (it was wooden toys and weighed a tonne). So they said they would send a courier. Waited in all day. Nothing. Called again. Arranged another day. Nothing. Sent an email saying they could sort it out I was making no further effort and if they didn't collect within a month they could sod off.

Never heard from them again. I gave the toys to our Operation Santa at work.

I think if you have made an attempt to get them to get it you've done your bit .

MumW · 17/11/2018 14:33

I would contact them by email (so you have proof) stating what has happened (inc dates of emails & phone calls) then tell them they have until dd/11/2018 to arrange return/collection and then you will be disposing of it.
