To be so embarrassed at my mistake

NC as I know people on here IRL and do not want them knowing how stupid I am.

Currently renovating our very tired and dated house and had lovely new windows put in downstairs. I like my privacy but live on a busy man road so have always had blinds in all windows.

As the windows were put in a few days ago and work is still being done, new blinds won't be going in just yet due to all the dust and paint. So I decided to cover up my front room window as people do when getting work done (usually shop fronts)... but clever me thought I would use glass frosting. And used that ALL over my new window. DH came home from work and was horrified Blush he said it's a pain in the arse to remove, disappeared upstairs and left it to me. I genuinely didn't realize it was something different to what is normally used.

AIBU to ask if you've ever done something daft when redecorating/renovating. I am uselsss with any form of DIY but learning a lot. (Clearly not enough).

Oh, and what is the best method to remove the frosting?

And Daily Mail you can fuck right off if you think you can publicize my embarrassment on your rag.

And breathe.

I contaminated my pond with duck weed which is impossible to get rid of. I was trying to add oxygenating weed. I’m an idiot.

bridgetreilly · 15/11/2018 21:56

No idea, but the thing you actually want in that situation in future is the patterned cling vinyl. It goes on just with water and can be peeled off with no residue at any time. They sell it at the Range and places like that.

TooOldForThisNow · 15/11/2018 21:59

If it's the spray on frosting I used cheap nail varnish remover (acetone).

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 22:01

Yes it's the spray TooOld

Nail Varnish Remover OP! Or a bottle of pure acetone which is nail tip remover for acrylics. You can get both in boots.

ILoveAutum · 15/11/2018 22:07

Oh that’s not so bad! I thought you were going to say you’d been ‘entertaining’ the builder in full view of the street or something.

I once had a shop that had a lot of small windows. I wanted to make it Christmassy...so despite my Dad suggesting it would NOT be a good idea as it’s an arse to remove, I went ahead.

It. Was. A. Bastard to get rid of, never, ever, again

ILoveAutum · 15/11/2018 22:08

Be VERY VERY careful what you use the plastic can be destroy in seconds

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 22:08

Nail varnish remover won't leave it with stubborn streaky marks will it?

I need it spotless and the way it was before. The builder is due tomorrow and I am dreading his reaction. I am sure he will do a bigger wtf than DH :(

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 22:10

Yes Autumn Oh no. I think plenty of elbow grease is required then! Do you mean the plastic on the sides? Yes I'll try and avoid that.

Not my error but if it helps my friend threw out a perfectly good washing machine when she moved into her new house because she thought it was broken and bought a new one only to realise they hadn't actually turned on the water supply.

Move2WY · 15/11/2018 22:14

Why on earth would you think the daily mail would be interested in such a mundane mistake.

cowfacemonkey · 15/11/2018 22:33

The daily mail report tedious "celeb female wears same outfit twice in a row faux pas" stories so who knows; frosted windows might have them in a right "woman fucks up" storyline tizz

comedycentral · 15/11/2018 22:36

Elbow grease is all you can do I guess. Just be careful not to scratch the glass

cowfacemonkey · 15/11/2018 22:37

Although they do have hard hitting journalism as illustrated in this son has same colour hair as his dad piece

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 22:42

That made me laugh cowfacemonkey it's pretty awful journalism I have to say.

move2WY Not sure if you have seen some of the thread stories borrowed by the DM. Anyway I had to put it there because of it did happen DH would not let me live that one down.

You use Windolene to obscure a window. Put the creme on and its opaque then you wipe it off and clean the windows at the same time.

6triesbuttingout · 15/11/2018 22:47

Haha 36 years living in our house and there is multi evidence of my cock ups. My husband calls them decor feature when he’s being kind. When ive hacked him off not so much

Rafflesway · 15/11/2018 22:52

Tinwoman. This video could prove very useful!

Good luck!

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 15/11/2018 22:52

Get a glazier out to replace the glass, job done!

TeenTimesTwo · 15/11/2018 22:55

DH painted his front door and then mowed the lawn ...

onthenaughtystepagain · 15/11/2018 22:56

Not mine, honestly!
OH was stripping some hideous expensive wallpaper from our dining room the day before the children's christening, they were 4 and 6. There was a thick lining paper and he let them draw with felt pens on it for fun. He later repapered the wall and was very proud of it, until the felt pens leaked through. Very last minute dash to B and Q, stripping and hanging wallpaper at 1 am on the morning of the christening!

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 22:57

Just watched this exact video on YouTube Raffles Thanks! Elbow grease is what's needed. The thought of razor blades etc scare me I know I would definitely scratch the glass.

Tinwoman123 · 15/11/2018 23:00

Haha these stories are making me feel better.

I don't know what it is, I always manage to f*ck things up when I use my own initiative in things like this Confused

Rafflesway · 15/11/2018 23:00

That video certainly seems a safer bet and wouldn't harm the plastic surround Tinwoman.

Just normal window cleaner and a magic eraser! Smile

Magic erasers are brilliant for all sorts of things.

Summerisdone · 15/11/2018 23:03

Last summer my DS had noticed he could now reach light switches and the heating switch on the walls (he was only 2 but switches are all strangely low down 🤷🏻‍♀️) and liked to go round the house pressing all the switches... well it was easy enough to spot when he'd pressed a light switch, but I didn't always notice the heating until i had a mad sweat on despite windows being open Grin so I had the genius idea to just switch the boiler temporarily to hot water only as it was summer after all and I wouldn't be needing heating for a bit anyway... fast forward to mid November and I'm trying to turn heating on but radiators are staying stone cold... after a few calls to the housing to try to arrange an actual set day for a plumber to come out (they usually turn up any day within a week of calling) I even took a day off work to wait in and the first thing he did was check boiler where he saw that I didn't even have the heating switched on in the first place 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was quite embarrassed when he explained to me the issue Grin
