food you can POUR

Hi all,

My Mum's had an op which means that for the next 4 days or so she can only consume food 'which can be poured'. She's had a lot of yoghurt and soup - but i wondered if anyone had any better ideas?

No citrus or chocolate please, and no lumps!

Ta! x

Beef tea

Do you have a blender? Blending is your friend. The secret to keeping it nice tasting is to blend each food separately, and serve separately on the plate to make it more visually appealing and tasty! Stewed apples (blended) with custard (separately) is nice. Ice cream milkshake (McDonalds style) also good. Fish in parsley sauce (blended) with smooth mushy peas (separately) is OK too as a main.

Would baby food work? Ella's Kitchen has a huge variety of flavours

explodingkitten · 15/11/2018 17:14

Would very soft cooked scrambled eggs work? My dad had to eat soft gfood for three weeks and all the soups and sweet milkshakey stuff got boring on day 2.

naicepineapple · 15/11/2018 17:14

Smoothies, custard, blended ice cream

ReflectionsofParadise · 15/11/2018 17:17

Baby pouches 😁

RCohle · 15/11/2018 17:20

I think a variety of nice soups is likely to be the tastiest option to be honest.

Dhal might give some more texture.

Poodles1980 · 15/11/2018 17:21

I had an op last year and couldn’t eat anything. Those baby pouches of fruit are your friend akin with protein shakes. If it’s only for a few days it’s easy to survive

bringbackthestripes · 15/11/2018 17:28

Rice pudding - with a bit of a blend.
Stewed plums- with cream, custard or ice cream
Beef stew with carrots blends well.

jovial has a good suggestion re everything being separated. I hope your mum has a speedy recovery.

GirlCroosh · 15/11/2018 17:29

Blend stews and curries to be smoother. Texture of soup but different flavours.

Blend shepherds pie filling smooth, then top with extra buttery / milky mash. Same for fish pie etc.

There are companies that deliver frozen puree meals, if she's likely to need them for a while it can help to have some handy.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 15/11/2018 17:30

After I had major dental work and couldn’t eat I was saved by oats smoothies.

It was more filling than just fruit etc.

One of my favourites was oats, frozen banana milk and peanut butter

PretendNothing · 15/11/2018 17:31

Porridge?

crispinquent · 15/11/2018 17:33

Seconding baby food pouches- meal ones full od protein

TeddyIsaHe · 15/11/2018 17:34

Really soft polenta would work

Sundayblues13 · 15/11/2018 17:36

I used to work at a hospital , a liquid diet is the same as anything you can eat solid as long as it’s blitzed with in an inch of its life . So if your making a roast dinner it can ble blended and served x

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/11/2018 17:44

Chicken soup. ALL the chicken soup!! Grin

inneedofgoodideas · 15/11/2018 17:44

thanks all - it's liquids only for about a week (we are on day 3) and then sloppy food for 6 weeks. so all these ideas are really helpful, especially the ideas about blending things separately!

If you get the plates designed for when your weaning with lots of different compartments it will help keep the blended food separate can usually grab them in the pound shop , look like American TV dinner trays x

Semolina and ground rice as a base for stewed Apple or mashed banana. Avocado, well mashed - very, very nutritious for recovery.

AdaColeman · 15/11/2018 18:16

Avocado is a good call, you could mix it with sieved cottage cheese or beaten cream cheese such as Philly.
