Problems communicating with 10yo daughter

I can't seem to converse with my daughter beyond yes and no questions. If I try to find out more info e.g. what she did in her lesson, what was the picture she drew of, who did she work with in her group , I just can't get an understandable response and i get so frustrated. I used to get annoyed which was wrong so now I just give up or don't bother asking in the first place.
It's like I'm speaking another language. Every basic straightforward question I ask is either forgotten in a millisecond- she's heard it but just doesn't seem to see the need to reply - or responds with the most obtuse answer or approaches it from the most incomprehensible angle. It's like what colour is the sky.? The answer would be I don't understand what you mean.

Help!

Sounds pretty normal Grin

We have "kevin"

I've heard they eventually emerge from the other side as reasonable human beings. You just need lots of gin in the mean time

My 10 year old DD is also like this. Eye-rolling, huffing, stomping a-plenty.

Hormones are the pits!!

'Kevin' is a very accurate description!

I think teenagers are missold - my daughter at 16 is a love, chatty, witty, loves a cuddle and will cook the odd meal and clean up the house just to say, "Thanks." She was velociraptor between 9 and 13.
