Emma's diary packs

Bellabutterfly2016 · 15/11/2018 07:44

Hey - I downloaded the Emma's diary app as my midwife said I'd get lots of nice freebies! (I'm 32 weeks)

Went to collect 3 packs yesterday from boots and all I got of any use was some Dettol wipes, pampers wipes and 2 packs of 2 different sorts of nappies in 3 reasonable sized carrier bags!!!!

It was full of cardboard and paper "junk" like brochures for random stuff like graze boxes etc.....

I was with my sister in law and we both agreed that it was a total waste of time and paper and bad for the environment as 75% of it went in the wheely bin.

The bounty packs are equally as rubbish, I know these companies do it for advertising but really couldn't see the point!!!!

If you are de-cluttering don't bother getting these, they're a total waste of time!

4 years ago I made the mistake of signing up for Emma's diary things just to get what turned out to be a few free samples of laundry detergent.

It signed me up for a ton of junk mail, phone calls etc... when I asked people where they got my details they would say "have you signed up for Emma's diary?"

I'm preg again and not bothering with any of those free packs! Just a data gathering exercise!

Theweasleytwins · 15/11/2018 07:50

Last time i got the packs (2015) there were better things- not by much but like a small pot of sudocream and toothpaste i think? Still not great though

Mummymumm · 15/11/2018 07:54

Yup they are pretty crap. Although the growing bump pack (I think it's called) had a free pack of pampers nappies in it. But yeah the number one and three packs are useless.

EmUntitled · 15/11/2018 07:59

They are all just advertising junk. You might get a few little freebies and vouchers but most of it is just leaflets.

There have been articles recently about banninh the Bounty people from trying to sign up women on the maternity ward. When you are sleep deprived, stressed, hormonal etc. You aren't in the right mind to decide on marketing preferences and they guilt you into it.

ChanklyBore · 15/11/2018 08:07

They don’t take you OFF the mailing lists either.

My personal experiences aren’t the worst, but after losing my son in pregnancy they carried on spamming me with shit. Even when I rang up and told them. So I got emails telling me how excited I should be near his due date, cards congratulating me on the birth of my baby and offering newborn photo shoots. It didn’t stop there, I then got “birthday” offers for him for several years afterward.

Emma's diary itself is pretty cringeworthy. There was a great Twitter thread about it.

@Cthulwho
Omg I've just read this!!!
I'm just deleting the app from my phone now!!! I can't believe someone writes this crap let alone someone publishing it!!!

@ChanklyBore

I'm so sorry to hear that, it's awful. I think both Emma's Diary and Bounty need shutting down!

I got loads of junk calls and e-mails after signing up for Emma’s Diary. IMO it’s not worth the freebies.

BunsOfAnarchy · 15/11/2018 23:30

The ONLY useful thing out of all the freebie packs was the sample size sachets of lansinoh nipple cream. They saved my life many a time as id stashed them in my purse instead of carrying the big tube around.
Everything else was binned. (Graze box leaflets, junk shit)

If it were up to me i would put in those packs;
Nipple cream sample
disposable hospital briefs
maternity pads
Breast pads
And the pièce de résistance...a minature bottle of whisky.

Fuck those little bottles of fairy non bio.

I did them with my first as thought they would be great and was excited about freebies and trying different things. But they were mainly rubbish, not worth all the hassle and emails you get after.
I didn't bother with my second.

Pilot12 · 05/11/2019 21:45

I recently collected the last bag, new family I think it was from Argos (the green one). I got a carrier bag containing a travel size toothpaste, travel size nappy cream and a sachet of Factor 50 sun cream, plus a few leaflets. Four years ago when I had my first baby the bag was full of stuff!

Stressedout1980 · 05/11/2019 22:13

I empty out the free samples into boxes for families in need to take/add them to food bank parcels

Tinyandpetite · 06/11/2019 08:27

Emma’s diary gave my details to 3 mobile-they were relentless at harassing my landline! I was sick too death of them ringing.

Nat6999 · 06/11/2019 08:36

From what I can remember my pack had a tiny pot of sudocrem, samples of Pampers nappies, a plastic box for a partial pack of baby wipes, tiny Johnson's baby lotion, shampoo & washing stuff. I used the nappy stuff in the pocket of my pram for going out until my now ex MIL nicked it all.
