To regift?

I watched a segment on This Morning and it got me thinking if it's okay to regift unwanted presents...

I received a box of mint chocolates for my birthday in September. I hate mint chocolates with a passion, so I still have them. I was thinking about giving them to my mother as a Christmas present. Is that an awful thing to do? Expiry date is April 2019.

No, it is absolutely fine. As long as your mother didnt give you them!

SimplyPut · 14/11/2018 20:19

I pop things I receive but would never use in the present cupboard. I hate waste but only re gift to someone who I feel will genuinely like the item.

AlmostAlwyn · 14/11/2018 20:57

I think regifting is fine as long as the person who gave it to you won't become aware of it!

I'm in a regular secret santa every year and I made a real effort to get something I thought my recipient would like... But someone else in the group got it the next year! Ok, fair enough, but I was a bit put out!

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2018 20:59

Of course it's OK, as long as you don't accidentally give a gift back to the person who gave it to you.

My mother gave me a birthday gift that I had bought for her at Christmas Confused

CandyCreeper · 14/11/2018 21:36

Why not just give them to her rather than pretending you had bought them yourself? Blimey it’s only a poxy box of chocolates!

agree

bringbackthestripes · 14/11/2018 21:36

I was once regifted something I had given that person the previous year!

Chocolates or gift set I would donate as a raffle prize to the school or cubs or whatever if it wasn’t something I would use. Anything else I would give to the charity shop. I would feel too guilty regifting or be scared I would be found out Grin

MemoryOfSleep · 15/11/2018 06:55

I like regifting. Unless you have the time, money and skill required to get the perfect gift every time, not regifting just means two lots of naff gifts get purchased instead of one. Hopefully if enough people do it, it'll decrease the amount of tat manufactured in the first place, which would be better for the environment.

Hatstand · 15/11/2018 07:32

Of course it's ok, assuming your mum likes mint chocolates. I think it becomes a problem when people are obviously using it as a way of getting rid of crap, but equally it's a problem to use charity shops as a dumping ground or throw a useable item in the bin.

^This otherwise it goes to charity shop
