AIBU in feeling fed up about job interview

I applied for a job that was advertised directly by the company. Had first interview which was great. Second interview even better They basically told me I was the ideal person for the position, what a great fit ect ect. Showed me round the office. I came away delighted as I loved the position and the company, thought I had it in the bag.
A week later I get a reply from HR still saying how they thought I would have been ideal blah blah but they have decided to give the position to an internal candidate.
Obviously i am very disappointed but do you think that I was just interviewed with no chance of getting the position? Just to go through the procedure. I guess internal candidates will always get the job?

Yanbu
That is shit and it’s happened to me too
I bet you get invited to apply the next time they have a vacancy though, so in your shoes I wouldn’t complain as you may want to have good relations with them in the future

It fucking sucks though

Happens to everyone. Unfortunately many companies have to play these HR games to pretend the process is fair and jump through the hoops when they already know who is getting the job.

Chin up. All for the best. Something better will come along for you.

No reason to assume it was not a genuine interview. I have often had internal and external candidates and would not necessarily always go for the internal one.

It's really annoying and boils my piss, I've had it happen when I've arranged lied through my teeth to get time off work and travelled a significant distance. I also went for a job where I was as good as told an offer would be on the way only to be strung along for a while and finally told the company hadn't got the contract for the work so the job wasn't there. They were interviewing before they had got the contract. Angry

It's so inconsiderate and disrespectful to potential candidates. Depends how much you hope you may get another chance whether you complain. Or if you get invited to another interview you could then state that you weren't happy last time and expect this interview to be in good faith.

From their point of view you may have been ideal for the role but the advantage of having someone used to the company, people and need less training getting used to business processes etc, will make it hard to not want to hire them. Also compared to external candidates often internal candidates expect less money.

Seen it both ways though - sometimes being an internal candidate will be a massive disadvantage. I've seen them snubbed because you know their mistakes, their issues or just because while they are great, the company needs new blood and ideas to help it grow.

In fact I've seen it go the opposite way more. It sounds like it was close or they wouldn't have needed to do a second round.

As others have said, come to another role I wouldn't be surprised if you got the role or even if they keep an eye on you for the future for a higher role (been there myself).

Yes it is frustrating but they will have their reasons however annoying. Don't do what one person did and try to tell us they were going to get us investigated for being unfair as we clearly hired an internal candidate... They were never going to stand a chance compared to even the second choice candidate (who was external).
