Periods.... tmi

So I've always suffered with very heavy periods, generally regular and usually for 7 days. Have had 3 children and periods have returned back to normal pretty quickly after birth. 3rd DS is 7 months old and my periods came back totally normally after his birth but last month I had spotting for a week and then a very light period the week after, now this month I'm having spotting again...

I've never had a light period in my life? AIBU to ask what on earth is going on? Is this worthy of a doctors visit?? I am totally stumped!

I suffer terribly too and it f this was me I would be just as stumped!
I believe the advice is if it's significantly different to what you're used to you are supposed to go get checked out. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Assuming you're not pregnant?

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 06:58

@LadyOfTheFlowers I did a test just in case 🙈 it was negative but I may do another! Obviously if this is the way my periods are now going to be I am NOT going to complain but it doesn't make sense does it? Never had a sudden change like this. Also had a smear just a few months ago and that was fine 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ah right. That is odd then. Maybe just give the doc a ring? I am lucky in that I can usually do that, just ask her to give me a ring when she can and say if I need to go see her if it's period/coil etc related

I wouldn't be complaining either but even though it's better than how it was before it's still not normal do you iyswim?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/11/2018 07:15

Normal for you that should say

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 07:59

@LadyOfTheFlowers yes that's my concern.. I'll get it checked out!

When I was a teenager the dr told me my periods would be better after I had children (they weren’t), maybe you are the person this happens to?

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 19:24

@BigGreenOlives I mean that would be absolutely ideal!!! But a bit odd to happen months after the 3rd 🤔

Thanks for posting this OP, I’ve had really worrying changes in my periods recently and I’ve been putting off going to the doctors, but your post made me determined to call them tomorrow.

Good luck!

Any change in contraception?

Pregnant? I had light spotting like this prior to positive test with both of mine.

How old are you? Any chance of the menopause?

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 20:37

@AngelsSins oh no!! I hope everything is ok with you and I really must also call the GP 😳

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 20:38

@Fatted oh my... I sincerely hope not! And also only 30 so highly unlikely on the menopause front!!

Are you breast-feeding? This will affect hormones and ergo affect periods

namechangus2000 · 14/11/2018 20:45

@Maursh no I only managed 2 weeks and then my periods came back to normal pretty much straight away, I know hormones can take up to a year after having a baby, but they went back to normal so I think it would be slightly odd to change again?

Now after a week of spotting I'm bleeding a bit more normally and this happened last month. A week of spotting a week of slightly heavier bleeding 🤔

BuggerandBalls · 16/11/2018 08:53

Go get yourself checked out. My periods were weird for a long time, then about a year ago I suddenly started having something very similar to what you’ve described (spotting for a week, then a more normal period, then more spotting for a few days afterwards).

I put off going back to my GP for AGES, because I wasn’t sure if it warranted an appointment or I was just going to be judged as making a fuss over nothing.
I was eventually diagnosed with adenomyosis and have recently had a total hysterectomy (please don’t worry that this is on the cards for you; mine were also unbearably painful and I’m certainly not saying that I think you have this!)

If something has changed, or you feel that there’s something not quite right, go and ask to have it investigated. You know your body best; it could be nothing but it’s better to be sure!

namechangus2000 · 16/11/2018 22:13

@BuggerandBalls thank you! I'm sorry you had to go through that! I will definitely get it checked out!

Jezzifishie · 16/11/2018 22:35

Have you got a coil? I got one after having a baby, and despite it not being the one with hormones it's still doing strange things to my periods. Sometimes they're really light, sometimes they're horrendous, sometimes they drag on for 3 weeks with a light mini period before the main event.

namechangus2000 · 18/11/2018 10:30

@Jezzifishie no I have had the Mirena coil in the past and it caused lots of problems!
