To wonder about my baby's flat head?

My DS is 4 months old and has a flat Ish head at the back. All of my friends with babies around the same age have perfectly round heads, yet they all spend far more time on their backs than my DS! AIBU to wonder why he has a flat head and they don't?

Any experience with this?

My daughter had this when she was born but then her head shape in general was odd. she was premature but still a big baby (I have diabetes). She was under the care of the hospital for a while and we had to push to get them to investigate. She had an Xray which mentioned a specific condition we had never heard of, craniostynastosis. However we were still not satisfied and asked to be referred to a specialist centre who confirmed she did have this condition and she went on to have surgery. I don't want to frighten you but I would really recommend that you speak to the GP and insist on it being fully investigated. While most babies with a flat head do not have this condition and like the posters above have pointed out many babies have a flat head due to positioning, I would recommend seeing a doctor.

My DD heads was so flat at the back that the health visitor refer her for brain scan to be sure it wasn't due to a skull disorder. It was the more severe she had ever seen.

DD is now 19 and a perfectly rounded head. If I remember properly, it was all back to normal by the time she was 12 months old if not sooner.

Thank you all so much for your advice, especially the links! I think I'll seek some medical advice and go from there!
