AIBU to be nervous?

Hi I am scheduled for a hystorectomy tomorrow last resort have tried all other options and they have not worked. This morning I woke up with the worst case of nerves I have ever experienced. I understand the reasons behind my surgery and how the outcome will help to take pain away although I also understand that the recovery process can be difficult.During a previous surgery it all went wrong and I went into anaphylactic shock and my heart stopped woke up in the ICU 9 hours later with alot of tubes coming from every where, the cause has now been identified as NSAIDS, latex and the iodine solution which was used and flagged as a do not use. Now all i can think is worst case scenarios and the what ifs have set in . The doctor prescribed diazepam which i have take every day since my preop last Wednesday. So far this morning I have cleaned my house, done yoga it usually has a calming effect on me but not today, i made sure i was working today as a distraction and have planned to watch movies with kids before bed tonight. Any ideas on ways to help pre surgery nerves? AIBU to be so nervous considering what happened during previous surgery?

Maybe try a short meditation (I love the app insight timer) or a hot bath, a comedy film? It’s completely understandable why you are nervous and do not dismiss your feelings however you will be safe and you will be ok and you were unlucky last time but it’s not normal.

Sending you huge hugs

Hi, I hope it all went ok and that you are doing well in recovery.

Hi I would have responded sooner but had preop stuff and anastetic apparently means the thinking m part of your brain does not function well however did amuse doctor by asking if he was a robot or has and pet robot, should not be allowed to read before ops. Went through to preop room and was assured by lead aneastatist there were no bad drugs and that door was locked which reassured me. actually went through the op really well. Doctor actually came around and seen me after I got to ward to tecnally reassure me. Other than having to take away more than he first thought due to bad scaring (have not delt with this as of yet).
After care nurse until bed time last night was amazing as were post op care team were brilliant.
Now to get the dreaded catheter out as nurse said it was bloody blocked due to me laying on it cannot wait to pee like a big girl again.

I'm pleased everything has gone well so far OP - surgery is really frightening even though it is sometimes necessary.

I hope you continue to recover well Flowers

All the best on your recovery now and well done for staying calm! I imagine anesthetists hear all kinds of crazy things 😂.

Make sure you rest up!
