Looking up medical records

Alegend · 13/11/2018 01:19

My x wife works at a GP surgery and left me for a GP that works there.
She regularly looks at my medical records without permission at her surgery. And let's our x friends and tells our 2 children about the pills that I take for nerve pain and my medical history and warms them to stay away from me even tho they are both in their early 20s I have lost my relationship with my daughter as my x wife and her partner who is a doctor have both decided to dictate my life and I wouldn't fit in. I see my son regualy as he knows it's just them being controlling but my daughter will not see me.
I have been divorced 10 years and have not seen my x wife and her doctor partner since when I found out about the affair 10 years ago and would not be any part of their deceit and lies about me. Please help as he is a doctor with grand influence within the NHS I am stuck.

I would make the complaint via your MP because the NHS has to respond to MP enquiries within 10 days. Additionally as MPs have parliamentary privileges they automatic access to more information.

OP hasn't said anything other than info es would already know about him, so far.

Other than DS saying she told him to not play with a friend, as he has depression. I have no idea what kind of DM would say such a thing!

What has she said OP?

Thankyou so much for your very encouraging reply the information you have given is now in motion and I will be sending a CC. Complaint to head of NHS within my region.
Kindest regards,

I worked in surgeries in a rural area. It is absolutely possible to access systm1 on as many surgeries as you have been given access to no matter how far away they are. Ours were up to 20 miles apart.

Endofthelinefinally · 17/11/2018 03:22

My team provided peripatetic services and we could access all surgeries from whichever one we were in.
This access wouldnt be available to all staff though.

DarthLipgloss · 17/11/2018 09:57

System one logs who/when looks at it.
It would be easy to prove either way.

Alegend · 18/11/2018 22:42

The surgery I belong to and the surgeries that my x wife works at there is 3 in a block and all the surgery in my post code are all connected to system one. Now when I asked who can see my medical records I was told all the surgeries within my district can access medical records as it saves time and can save lives. I can see from some statements above represent their work within the medical sector, I don't want her sacked as I am not a nasty person and she is the mother to my beautiful children. I just want her to stop checking to see what medication I am on. I have no evidence apart from my son. But I will have soon with the kind people's advice above so if you work in the medical profession you know it goes on, they could be checking your records like a doctor at her surgery takes antidepressants and other drugs to cope. This was a topic of conversation when we were still together and she had just started her employment at the surgery. Within a month she knew everything about everyone there because she has to know it's her daily obsession.
Thankyou for all help and advice given.

Please make sure you include the allegations you just made OP. If they see she has been accessing all patients notes willy nilly she really should have to go, as she is a complete liability to patient confidentiality. She basically has none.
Let us know how you get on.

Lymphy · 18/11/2018 22:55

It's been an age since I used system one but I'm pretty confident that you have to log on and it records who views what with date and time stamps. So complain and it should be checked out,

Lymphy · 18/11/2018 23:00

You could also ask to speak to the Caldicot guardian, basically the person in charge of confidential information, how it is accessed, why it is accessed, how it is stored and ensures this in line with the data protection act. Every trust has one so should apply to Gp's, a mention of Caldicot usually gets people a bit twitchy if there's been breach

Alegend · 18/11/2018 23:14

Thankyou of course I will keep you informed every step and every reply.

Yes yes I defiantly will mention Caldicot guardian thankyou for all your help.

Access to records leaves a trail. It will be easy enough for it to be determined what she accessed and when.

Definitely a sackable offence (and rightly so).

And as for the poster who said Change surgeries?, words fail me

AnyFucker · 18/11/2018 23:29

Good luck, op. If what you suspect is proven to be true, she will have the book thrown at her.

Nonameslob · 19/11/2018 02:05

Unless your ex wife works at your surgery or it is a branch of the one she works at she won't be able to access your current records on SystmOne. Is the information she is giving your son current?

Endofthelinefinally · 19/11/2018 02:58

As I mentioned before it is perfectly possible for a smart card to be programmed to access any number of unrelated GP practices across unlimited distance.
A single smart card can even access different systems.
In my last job my card was programmed to access both Systm1 and Emis. I was also able to access a lab system over a 50 mile radius.
The IT people can programme the cards easily if the individual can show reasonable need.
Whether a senior person would do this honestly and legitimately is a moot point. But nothing would surprise me tbh.

Contact NHS England & the ICO. NHSEngland will investigate for you. ICO need to know about these breaches as staff are getting away with doing this more & more.
