To throw a children's birthday party end of December?

DS birthday is in between Christmas and New Year, I'm trying to decide whether to throw him a party on the date or to wait until one of the first weekends in January. He has never had a party before because it's such an awkward date. DH thinks people would come and be glad to have something for their kids to do after the Christmas madness has died down. I think people will either be away/not be bothered to come/ just want to chill at home. If your DC had an invite to a party on say 29 Dec would you take them? Would you rather take them on 12 Jan or something? TIA.

I definitely would, if they were at home.

Actually scrap that, just going to go with January and hopefully enough people will want to come! Thanks for all the answers though. Christmas time birthdays are a big pain!

My birthday is in the middle of summer and I've never had a party because everyone else is usually off on holiday or something. You can't win. If people want to go, they'll go.

True!

Draw up a potential list of guests and check availability. Call them or email.

That’s my daughters birthday too.
Never had a party it’s just not a good date sadly.

Same for me, birthday in the summer holiday so never got a party on my actual birthday, always a few weeks early. I'm having a baby due end of December so will probably do something similar - family gathering or activity on the date every year if possible, then party with friends a week or two later.

I’m really doubting my choice to have my DCs party between Christmas and New Year now. I am expecting some families will be away but hoped many would be able to come but from reading this post I’m now thinking maybe it wasn’t a great idea.

For me December is always tricky as people have so many commitments in the lead up to Christmas and January is difficult for us as it’s my other DCs Birthday. Guess we’ll see how this year goes and reassess for next year!
