To think Christmas jumpers should be banned?

....well not banned, but I hate the way everyone is pressured to purchase and buy one of these.

Work is taking part in the dreaded 'Christmas jumper day' and it's very much frowned upon if you don't take part.

I don't own an xmas jumper, and I resent paying £20 for a jumper I'll only be able to wear for 3 weeks of the year. I know I can wear it again next year, but to be honest I find the fabrics very uncomfortable. Let's not forget, the designs are mostly hideous.

I made a couple of Christmas motifs...mine were crochet, but they could be felt and I tack them onto whatever cardigan, hoody or jumper the dds are wearing that year. I have reused them every year. D's has a Grinch t-shirt he wears (he hates jumpers) and he wears it in bed the rest of the year. I have an elf t-shirt for work that again, doubles as a pyjamas top. Not much waste or cost there!

OftenHangry we have Christmas duvets that we have had for years. Actually had a bit of a pang this year when I got them out and realised I could only use them for the smallest one as the two oldest got double beds last year and they are single duvet covers. I did ask whether the older ones wanted me to get them christmassy double duvets but they passed.....

@ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses aww. Wait when they are 20. They will want them again😁 We never had them when I was little. I went into full on Christmas mode when I moved out. My house has probably more Christmas stuff than local Santa grottoBlush
Loving the username btw!

Our school PTA sells donated Christmas jumpers at the school fair. Always very popular as parents can buy the next size up for a few quid.

Yabu. Other people enjoy their Christmas jumpers but no one is making you wear one. Either wear a more stylish Nordic knit or don't join in at all. You can always wear a Christmas pin if you want. I bet you would love Reindeer deeply boppers

I’ve worn the same one for the past few years to be honest, doesn’t need to be wasteful; but similarly if you don’t like them don’t get one! It’s not like you will get in trouble at work for not wearing one, they probably just think it’ll be fun.

Sitranced · 02/12/2018 13:19

I wouldn't want them to be banned. They make it a lot easier to spot and avoid the Christmas bore in a crowd.

Biker47 · 02/12/2018 13:33

Spend £10 and donate £1 to whatever it is they're promoting, that's logical.

Moaning about waste and landfill is just irrelevant. It's all in the execution.

You don't have to buy a brand new one every year and then bin it.

Just get on eBay or to a charity shop and get something second hand. Then redonate or resell afterwards if you don't want to keep it.

I've been doing this for my kids for years. You can buy something in the right size for a few quid and then resell for the same amount when they are outgrown.

I'm thinking of suggesting a Christmas jumper stall for a fundraising event at their schools, to make this even easier. If they do it at the right time they'd clean up.
