Wear something spotty for CIN.

Not really an AIBU, but traffic is good in here!

DS has a wear something spotty for CIN day next week. For personal reasons I do not wish to support CIN anymore, we will pay the £1 so he’s not the odd one out next Friday but I don’t want to give anymore by buying one of their T-shirt’s, for example.

My problem is that he doesn’t have anything spotty. He needs some bigger clothes anyway so I looked online for something spotty. They don’t sell spotty clothes that aren’t pink and frilly and basically something DS wouldn’t be seen dead in. So, what do I do?

Just a question, a genuine question. Why not donate to CIN? Have I missed something.
Not judging, I have always supported the charity. It seems like some have a really strong view. Could somebody enlighten me, I don't want to give my money to a bad charity.
TIA

The Chris Evans fund raising and auctions have always massively turned me away from giving anything to CIN.

My 9 year old cane out of school on Friday saying ‘Miss says I have to wear a spotty top, Pudsey ears and a Pudsey mask.’ He was most put out when I showed him the newsletter that said something spotty OR odd socks. I felt a bit mean but told him he could do odd socks as I wasn’t going to buy something new for one day. I did have a quick look when in the town at the weekend and didn’t see any spotty tops for boys anyway!

We are doing pjs this Friday thank goodness. I will pay the pound but I don't like cin. A couple of years back it came out that they had millions squirrelled away and that seems wrong to me that all those donations are being kept earning interest somewhere instead of being used for their promised purpose.

Can you imagine, the amount of money, up and down the land, that's been spent on spotty stuff. The retailers are the big winners here.

Endofthelinefinally · 12/11/2018 08:19

Can't stand CIN.
And I think they should keep out of schools and not put parents in the difficult position of paying out money they can't afford or making some children feel excluded if they don't have the right outfit.
I used to find all this dressing up/ wear something orange/ donate money/ bake a cake stuff very stressful when I had 3 dc and a job to cope with.
I have always volunteered and supported charities of my own choosing.

CIN need works as a grant giving organisation with certain rules and regulations as to how money can be drawn down. So, for example, a £100,000 grant over 5 years wouldn't be paid up front. There would be an expectation of an annual report minimally and probably quarterly financial reporting. CIN therefore may have committed/ring-fenced much of their funding at any one time but still be sitting on most of it because of this. CIN in particular will fund smaller organisations and those run by volunteers only. They will look for financial experience on the board of trustees minimally but you can imagine the outrage if they hand over £100,000 on day one and it is mis-spent. There is therefore a system of checks and balances in place to avoid this.

To those saying face paint: Check school policy. Last year we didn't have spotty clothes so did the pudsey spotty hanky over the eye in face paint. I dropped off DD at school and had a voicemail on my way to work asking me to come and remove it as the school didn't allow face paint! Confused

Endofthelinefinally · 12/11/2018 08:26

Hmm. Not a very good system of checks and balances if they gave money to Kids Company and are currently funding Mermaids.

Just about every grant giving organisation gave to Kids Company. No system is perfect. I can’t comment on Mermaids.

I would never support CIN. As a result I also wouldn't give £1 to DC to give to the school to support it either.
