Odd sock day and other stuff

I think it's another thing for parents to do, another pointless challenge.

I cannot cope with this today, I have not slept for two days and have a 3 month old dangling from my boobs constantly. So forgive me for not being considerate of what charity/ awareness thing this is for but I've spent at least two years teaching my child to put a pair of socks on. He's upset because he doesn't understand why mummy is asking him to get out two pairs of socks and put one of each on each foot and telling him to go back three time because he kept putting a different pair of sock on each time.

He's going to have to wear odd socks tomorrow to compensate the added washing.

He's put two pairs of sock on, one pair over the top. This shit is too confusing for him.

7 pairs of socks a week if he was to wear odd it's an extra pair because it's one for each foot Grin I am only joking about the washing part!

He's got quiet boring socks too because their mostly black with days of the week on I'm afraid to say.

Tried to put odd socks on DS when we got up but he noticed and said no mummy they're not a pair, tried to explain it to him but he didn't give a monkeys. I'm not fighting with him over it, he'll wear a pair and I'll give a donation. It's like this on any charity day or dress up event. He was the only kid not dressed up on Halloween!
Don't stress. He might want to partake as he gets older and understands more but for now, just leave it. No one is going to berate a child for not wearing odd socks.

I find this shit very tedious. Had to buy some socks yesterday because all our socks match. And I can’t send DS in with matching because he’s the one that gets bullied so needs to “conform”. DD wears tights so I have just discovered she has cut a leg off her nicest tights so she can have different legs.

It really isn't a big deal if he doesn't join in. Where I work plenty of children wear their uniform on non uniform days for various reasons and no one comments. Many children wear the "spots" or "yellow" or whatever it is and don't donate the £1 - we do discuss amongst ourselves that "it's a shame that out of 400 children we only got £150" or whatever but we don't note which children do or don't contribute.

My DS is SEN and NEVER does any of the dress ups, will only wear black socks so couldn't wear odd socks anyway, he does take in the donation every time but no one cares that he doesn't "dress up". The only thing he does do is wear a poppy on his blazer.

Ds has just started school and I'm already sick to death of dressing up for this and dressing up for that already. He hates it, and it's money and inconvenience for me. Just educate my child please.

KittyPerry77 · 12/11/2018 09:59

I agree it's stupid. The odd socks can't be seen for kids wearing long trousers and girls have to dispense with their warmer tights so that they can wear odd socks.

Our school have three non-uniform days in one week (wear yellow, odd socks, CIN) in an area classed as deprived. It might only be £1 but it adds up with multiple children in school, and that’s without the children expecting new spotted pyjamas or whatever to wear. Charities should approach businesses rather than schools if they want to hold multiple fundraising days each year.
