Living near an accident blackspot

Another life lost this morning on the main route 1 minute drive from my home, with others in critical condition.
There are always arguments about improving the safety of the road versus claims of dangerous driving and careless errors, but nothing seems to change and the result is the same.
I am tired of seeing yet another cross and flowers along the road I need to travel on every day. I feel so sad and helpless for the families, and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before it happens to us (have already been in a collision on the road but luckily no-one hurt).

Posted too soon.
How do I keep calm, without succumbing to anxiety about driving there?? I’ve always loved driving and I don’t want a fear of driving to creep in.

sorry to hear that.

do you have a local comminity group?
we have a notorious roundabout nearby (2 cyclists died this year alone and there were countless other accidents) and our neighbourhood association together with the councillors are campaining a re-design to make it safer. hopefully next year it will be done.

My whole town is an accident Blackwood. Yes, I'm scared of driving.

I am in a similar situation - at least 3 fatalities in the past month on a short stretch of road. I drive twice as far on a different route to avoid the road as it is so dangerous and idiots speeding excessively. Ideally I need to use this route a few times a week to get my daughter and her friends to their football practice and matches but have got to the point where I can no longer do it.

It’s a big issue locally as it’s seen as an ‘arterial’ road - if they make it a dual carriageway (potentially avoiding dangerous overtaking) then there’s criticism that it will encourage faster driving and make it more dangerous at its numerous junctions. Leave as is and it’s clear it’s not fit for purpose especially if they want to attract more investment and transport to what is a pretty deprived area.
Local councillors will wring their hands about the latest tragedy but there’s no real solution at least for a few years. It’s just rotten and even now on the way home someone overtook me unnecessarily. I just don’t want to start hating driving because of it!

Book yourself on a ROSPA ( or similar) advanced driving course. This will boost your confidence and put you in the best position to avoid accidents through good driving skills
