To not go to work Christmas dinner

nodinners · 11/11/2018 16:00

I paid nearly £50 a few months ago.

However I am now on a diet and doing well with it. Would it be unreasonable to apologise and give a reason why I can’t go?

But you need to eat that day anyways I don't understand your problem except you are going lose money

Amanduh · 11/11/2018 16:04

Being on a diet.. what’s the problem? Just eat normally 🤷🏼‍♀️

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2018 16:05

Can you not just eat a small amount, don't bother with starter or dessert and just join in to be sociable?
Obviously you don't have to go for any reason bit this is an odd one.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 11/11/2018 16:07

You are being ridiculous. One night of normal eating isn’t going to ruin your diet, it will just make you miserable sitting at home with a lettuce leaf while your colleagues are having a lovely time,

You can always go easy on alcohol, leave anything really calorie laden, and still enjoy a meal.

JaiNotJay · 11/11/2018 16:07

It would be unreasonable, yes. One meal isn't going to make that much difference if you are sticking to the diet the rest of the time. And £50 is a lot of money to lose.

Clankboing · 11/11/2018 16:07

It's a treat. It's just one day.

VimFuego101 · 11/11/2018 16:10

Your diet is not sustainable if you can't find a way to manage occasions like this.

OftenHangry · 11/11/2018 16:13

@VimFuego101 is absolutely right!

Undercoverbanana · 11/11/2018 16:17

I never go to these things because I keep work and real life separate due to previous problems with workplace bitches.

In fact, in one job I organised the Christmas do but didn’t go myself.

One night off your diet isn’t going to damage your good work. Just be mindful about your alcohol consumption because that’s where the calories are. Don’t have coke or orange juice (they’re just as ruinous) - stick to water.

nodinners · 11/11/2018 16:33

Thanks. I don’t really drink. I know it’s onky one night but I find it hard to get back on the wagon afterwards.

OP posts:
happypoobum · 11/11/2018 16:34

Just eat half of everything...

nodinners · 11/11/2018 16:35

Well, the diet I’m doing is a meal replacement one so that wouldn’t make a difference.

OP posts:
Kit10 · 11/11/2018 16:36

If you really feel one Christmas dinner would throw you off the wagon chances are your diet won't work anyway! If your diet doesn't allow a Christmas dinner it isn't sustainable. Yes YABU, to yourself!

m00rfarm · 11/11/2018 16:36

The the diet is clearly not sustainable, so you are going to have to break it at some point. Why not try a diet that IS sustainable?

blackchina · 11/11/2018 16:37

YABU to cancel just because you are on a diet! What are you gonna do at Christmas? Cancel that as well!

Just go.

Teacupsandtoast · 11/11/2018 16:38

Please don't do a meal replacement diet - They are basically designed to tie you in to a cycle of success and failure - the weight you lose won't stay off

Teacupsandtoast · 11/11/2018 16:38

And go to your Christmas party!!

MrsJayy · 11/11/2018 16:38

What are you not eating that you think you won't get back on track ?there will be a few options chose the lower calorie being scared to eat out isn't healthy imo

PurpleDaisies · 11/11/2018 16:39

One night will make no difference whatsoever.

Adnerb95 · 11/11/2018 16:40

If you want to go, go and either eat normally just for that one meal or just leave the carbs and dessert alone. Not a big deal. It's sugar and carbs which would "throw" the diet. The rest won't hurt.

MrsJayy · 11/11/2018 16:40

But your work dinner canbe your meal or is it a youhave to eat our product kind of diet?

bastardkitty · 11/11/2018 16:41

If your diet is working for you and you know you'll struggle to get back on it, it's okay to prioritise your diet and health.

comedycentral · 11/11/2018 16:42

You live one life. One life. Do not avoid going to your Christmas Party just because of a diet. Life is too short.

Christmas parties are not for everyone but it sounds like you wanted to go at some point...

Delatron · 11/11/2018 16:44

Diets don’t work.

Healthy, balanced eating that you can sustain for a lifetime does. Not meal replacement.

So YABU. You can go and just not eat as many roast potatoes. Have the turkey and lots of veg. Shows how unsustainable your ‘dieting’ is if you can’t manage situations like this.

PurpleDaisies · 11/11/2018 16:46

Diets don’t work.

Healthy, balanced eating that you can sustain for a lifetime does.

Isn’t that just another word for “diet”?

I agree with you, crash diets don’t work long term.
