Rug Doctor - has anyone used?

Dog has just been sick all over the (cream 😭) bedroom carpet. I've even had to throw away my hairdryer as it got all up inside it Envy not the best start to a Sunday morning.

I've been frantically trying to think of things to do, our normal carpet cleaner spray isn't lifting it enough.

Our nearest Tesco does rug Doctor hire, has anyone used one before? And if so, how good was it? I don't know whether to give it a go or just fork out for someone to come and do it professionally.

P.s Pup is fine, DPs fault for play fighting with him straight after he'd eaten his breakfast Angry

I've used one a few times and thought it was excellent.

Worth comparing costs though, a professional carpet cleaning company vs hiring a tug doctor, buying the detergents and petrol / time picking it up and taking it back.

Glad your pup is okay.

We have one and I use it a lot 😊 would recommend :-) xx

IchWill · 11/11/2018 11:40

Rug Doctor. Not Tug Doctor. That sounds rude. ShockGrin

ItsBloodyFreezingg · 11/11/2018 11:41

I have used one, better than a vax I thought. What was strange is that I cleaned an old carpet then tried it out on a brand new one, the water was as dirty in both, just struck me as odd. One thing I do not like is that depending upon where you pick one up it has to be rolled along on pavements etc to get to the car.

Cottipus · 11/11/2018 13:13

We hired one in a hurry when DH tipped radiator sludge over our carpet and it did a pretty good job, you can’t tell where the stain was unless you look very closely.

It is a lot of effort though, doing the clean/pick up/return etc as PP mentioned you may want to compare professional carpet cleaning prices if you don’t need it doing in a hurry.

WonderTweek · 11/11/2018 13:15

I do love a rug doctor. It’s a bit of a hassle to hire and manoeuvre but generally does a good job on moderate stains. Didn’t get coffee off my cream carpet though but I left it for ages. I’d recommend Vax Stain Shot spray and then a rug doctor over it. 👌🏻

WombatStewForTea · 11/11/2018 13:16

My dad's a carpet cleaner and says that it depends on the stain but it can make the stain worse if done incorrectly. Think he gets called to a few jobs where a rug doctor has failed

Birdie6 · 11/11/2018 13:18

Tug Doctor, lol !! But yes I've used Rug Doctor very successfully. Better than any other I've tried.

ItsBloodyFreezingg · 11/11/2018 14:58

Thanks all. I'll do some comparing of prices and see whats what.

So gutted! The stain is absolutely massive Sad

We have gotten one for this exact reason. Dog pooed AND vommed all over upstairs, 3 x bedrooms, all pale wool carpets. Did rug doctor, amazing. Would recommend.

ItsBloodyFreezingg · 11/11/2018 15:06

Great thanks! It's helpful to have a review for the exact scenario Grin

Still currently airing the room out hours later. So gross.

Last time I used one I felt that the carpet took an age to dry and you have to factor in the hire and all the solutions are extra. I found it quite heavy too although it seemed to clean ok.

I get a carpet cleaner in, all the water stays outside and just the hose comes in plus the carpets dry more quickly.

lenlo · 11/11/2018 15:10

We had lovely cream carpet that we spent a fortune on.....then we got dog....then winter came!

Luckily my boy just about makes up for it

TheSmallAssassin · 11/11/2018 15:14

There are specialist stain removers for pet accidents like this, which have enzymes to tackle the stain. I've found them OK when the stain is fresh. Can't remember if I got ours in Sainsbury's or Pets At Home, but fairly easy to track down.

Needtomoveon12 · 11/11/2018 15:15

We hired one as our vax just wasn’t cutting it at bringing our cream carpet back to life..... it certainly did the job but took absolutely ages to dry, we did keep going over it to pick up as much water as poss but it still didn’t help, the next day the carpet absolutely stunk and did for a good ten days until it did eventually go. Maybe we had a faulty one but that was my experience, with the faffing about picking up and dropping etc I don’t think I would bother again, just my opinion.

TheSmallAssassin · 11/11/2018 15:17

Something like this?

londonrach · 11/11/2018 15:18

Used it every time we left a rented house. Great. Makes the carpet like new

Needtomoveon12 · 11/11/2018 15:19

Meant to add we did open windows doors etc to air the carpet, in the end I had to buy ten boxes of bicarb of soda and cover the carpet in it overnight to absorb as much damp and odour, should have added that’s why I wouldn’t bother again to my above post ha.

ShellsBells76 · 11/11/2018 15:19

It did a fab job when DD2 was a baby and she was on her cot top changer and projectile shat all over her brand new cream carpet and me...fun times!

I have a carpet cleaner and it's definitely not as good.

FishesThatFly · 11/11/2018 15:28

I hire one each year and do the whole house over a couple of days.
